What Do You Consider As Spam?

When you get E-Mails from entities such as Mobile Beat, Wedding Wire, DJ Intelligence, Promo Only, Gear Manufacturers, whether of not you have entered a subscription to these folks, do you consider that Spam?
In the case of DJ Gear, Sound & Video Related companies, what do YOU consider as Spam?

It's spam when I sign up for emails from company A but they keep sending emails promoting company B. I am aware that some tell you upfront or give you the option to receive "related" emails but there is a point when the related info becomes spam.

example: Mobile Beat keeps sending emails about Bose, Top Hits, promo only and anyone else who is a sponsor. I was able to count 6 separate times mobile beat sent the Bose email since December.

The only time I mark anything as spam is when I didn't request something and there isn't an unsubscribe link. If there's an unsubscribe link that isn't behind a login I click it and go through the process.

If I unsubscribe twice and yer still sending me junk I mark everything I see from you as spam.

The third party email (Publisher A pimping B's products) thing does bug me but I do understand it's part of advertising contracts.

SPAM, like weeds, is something you get that isn't desired.

Whether you treat it like SPAM or not, depends on the usefulness of it. Most people, without awareness, inadvertently sign up for such emails by virtue of signing up for things on the web and not reading what they are checking off. As long as there is a clear "unsubscribe" option, I'm ok.

What kills me is the low life websites that I may have asked for something from, that in turn give or sell (or have hacked) their email lists .. and the unending stream of male enhancement, low interest credit cards, Nairobi bank accounts and such that ensues.

I've found that about half the time you unsubscribe, you end up getting more junk, because you've then verified your email address.

What I find most annoying, is getting spam from my customers -- but not really from them. People get a hold of their contact lists, and email blast everyone on there, and since I'm on that list, I get them too. Like I really want a 14 year old Russian chick! WTF. Maybe a 21 year old...

I've unsubscribed from Adobe, PSSL and MB a number of times, and I still get the crap from them.

now i'll pick on Dan for example he owns a few domains and on is this one OURDJTALK

what I do is when I sign up to ANY website I create a email address just for that address

eg [email protected]

or [email protected]

then if I sign up with someone else say

at this one - [email protected]

this way it all comes into one account thats created for sign ups
now if I start getting emails other than from the email address of

say for example (the domain name) - ******@ourdjtalk.com

then I know the email address has been either Sold to advertisers
the email address has been harvested (which is bad for the domain)

or other reasons

this where I think at what I will do next
if the spam is so bad its annoying it gets REDIRECTED and BOUNCED back to the Source
so they can cop all the spam and I do not have to deal with it

I even have been threatened with legal action using the persons name as the front of the email address
but as I have been told if they wasnt scared of selling your email address they wouldnt try and sue you

so well that person still hasnt done anything and thats been 10x years so far LOL
even tho I was banned from the site (oh and I am on there anyway with more than one domain name in my arsenal LOL)

so if you own a domain name you can do all this easy

you have aliases that you can create when ever you like

As far as I'm concerned, any ad message coming to my inbox that I didn't agree to receive beforehand is spam.

I understand that some Sites sell their e-mail lists. For example, if I subscribe to an online Audio Magazine and they share my e-mail with other like minded sites, I have no problem with it. This is the business in which I am involved so I am always open to new things, articles etc. This is how one learns about new things. For other stuff that is non DJ related that I know I did not sign up to receive, I would consider those spam. Whenever I am checking my business e-mails first thing that I do is delete the unwanted stuff first, it only takes a minute or two. It does not bother me much!

I'm sorta guessing, that you don't get a few hundred emails a day. I do, and it takes away a lot of my time. I can usually figure on a couple hours each day going through this crap.

I get tons of stuff, tagged at the bottom with tapatalk or hotmail, or gmail. They go into my spam folder (anything from a free email address goes in there), but I still have to read them, to see if they are valid support requests.

I currently have 12 email addresses active, so it can become a PITA.

I don't know -- but yer here more than I am


I do have filters and rules in place in Outlook, that's why they get tagged as spam. For example, if something comes in from ODJT, it gets put in my ODJT folder. If my rule sees a valid support request, it goes into my Support folder. My security software will also flag someone, if they have some weird web link at the bottom.

If my rule sees a freebie email account, they go to spam. If my rules see you as a valid, you go into one of my folders that I look at first.

It does not take me a whole day or everyday to Sell, deliver or install Artwork. My Gigs are not in the day nor every single night. I have other sources representing my products and services. Does this satisfy you?

I don't mind getting DJ related deals in my inbox from real companies. I don't consider those spam. If it's something I'm not interested in at the time, I'll delete it.

But when I start getting email after email every day or so, I'll unsubscribe.

The spam for me is the "offers" trying to sell me drugs or ways to make myself larger in certain places, or girls from overseas that want to get to know me, or give me a great price on a rolex watch.

saying that my email account is full, and "click here to confirm your information".
I sent these emails to my ACTUAL provider, and they didn't seem to care all that much.
So I just add them to my SPAM list and move on.
If I am bored, I will hit REPLY and send their own message back to them....20 or 30 times.

My wife, on the other hand, hands out her email address to any site she visits...
and usually has 50 60 new messages (that she doesn't want) every time she checks her email.

I know all about the CitiBank spams where they use the actual logo and it looks pretty good.
Mine are actually very amateur, don't look official, use no logo from the company, and don't even use proper English.
