Wax on - wax off!

The assumption with a lot of people is that if they find out you're a DJ you have a bar or club where you play at. For some that's true but not for all. Some are simply not that type of DJ and would fail miserably. Some DJ's are best suited at doing private events like a wedding, corporate event or birthday party.

I've never heard that...

There are radio DJs, wedding DJs, club DJs, etc...

I think you make too many assumptions, based upon the crowd you hang out with...

Mix, you actually assume you're a DJ, don't you?

Are we talking about DJ as in Disc Jockey or DJ as in Damn Jackass?

Wow what a thread we have half a dozen forum lawyers and Proformance giving english lessons ;)

When it comes down to brass tax I believe no one regardless of paying for it or not is using music legally. Read the TOS on a CD

Don't have any CDs with me here Jeff -- but If I recall correctly, they say for your personal use only.

That's just IGNORANCE on your part. Shame on you for not knowing the correct answer and calling yourself professional.

It depends on how it is used. Private events like weddings and corporate events are okay. Club gigs are okay as long as the venue is paying BMI/ASCAP dues. If you rent a party room and open it up to the general public for profit, then you are not legal to use those CDs unless you too are paying BMI/ASCAP dues.

I don't ever recall Rick calling himself a professional....btw, a professional what? :p

I believe that was directed at Jeff, but since I'm snowed in WTF.COM.

Programming, yeah you could probably call me pro -- Yeah, I can get your $1M cruise missile to hit it's target, do OK on DJ software, and am fair at mopping the floors.

Other than that, I don't have much going for me, other than maybe stocking shelves at the supermarket -- labels aligned.

Apparently you don't know the correct answer Bob. Read the CD it says for non comercial use only as with Itunes.

The bottom line is no one will ever be called on it so it doesn't make a difference. Just because you have an opinion and publically post it doesn't make it correct

As for IGNORANCE you are the master

Jeff, He condescending toward just about everybody on this forum. I feel sorry for him if he's like this in the real world.
