Weddings Spammed on Wedding Wire?

Just got this email this morning through Wedding Wire....

Hello, My name is Barbara polk from Cleverland,Ohio.I am presently in Roma but probably will be moving back home soon and i'll be getting married shortly after my arrival in the states to my fiance Kerry Richardson.We will need a dj..We'll take responsibility for your expenses regarding our plans.we might not be able to meet you soon as planned..due to our unavailability in the states but,we are willing to retain the date,that's to make deposit for booking prior to our arrival to be sure we are interested in your service,if we really are. with best regards Barbara polk

Why not make the "deposit" a 100% pre-pay? Provided the so-called wedding date isn't within the next 2 weeks your money will have cleared the banking system. I'm all for being careful and agree this sounds like the scam routine but it could be someone who speaks little English that's trying to get married here. Okay, well it's a slight possibility.

I hate to disagree with all of you thus far. It could be and our radar should go up on these but we have had two interesting adventures this yr with similar type odd emails and I ended up doing a 3 day out wedding reception they were foreign and they just wanted some fun music for their Persian and Singaporian dinner wedding dance.

It's funny every year I get a call for a gig that never books and sounds a bit fishy and it is always the day before I am supposed to renew with weddingwire. The supposed client always says they found me on ww. I think as much exposure as u get, I think there a bunch of scammers them selves.

Funny, I did a wedding here (Huntsville, AL), a couple of years back for a couple living in Austria. While the msg does sound fishy, sometimes the check will clear. Do diligence.

Demand a phone call to book it, take all of the information over the phone. If it is legit you'll have a nice conversation. If they are a scammer I can't see them going to this trouble.
