I had a meeting to go to so I can't post pictures till later.

Last night my partner and his girl had a birthday party in a lounge and it sucked. The party was to start at 8pm and free to get in before 10:30. After that it was $10.00. Only a handful of people showed up and they didn't make a profit. They lost money.

Real ugly. My partner thinks if he changes the music being played and adding today's r & b will get people to come out. That won't happened because once again people don't know who he is. He's a great DJ but if they don't know you why would they come to a party and pay to get in.

I mentioned a place I would like to have a party at where I know I could get people to come and they would make money instead of losing money.

It's a place where they don't serve alcohol. I've got a certain group of people eating out of my hat and if they see I'm one of the DJ's on the postcards playing in this place they will come and spend $10.00.

His girl said the owner wants them to pay to have a party in this place. My partner used to play in this on a certain day of the month and the owner decided to stop him from playing there.

She doesn't get it. You got to spend money to make money. The money they spent on this party to have it where they had this one at, they could have had it at this other spot. All they had to do besides pay the owner his money and get 1000 postcards made up advertising the party with me playing it would have been a big hit! The other great thing is that in this place you don't need to have security. It's a great place that's only but so big.

I know just me alone I could have gotten 40 to 50 people to show up. I'm going to talk to my partner and his girl Sunday and I hope they will listen. Like I said I'll post pictures later. What I'll do is post pictures from the party I did last Friday and the one they did this Friday to show the difference.

Yes you have Sharp. I just hope that my partner will keep an open mind and listen. Stop doing something that isn't working.

Dude, enough! Dump the partner! You are never going to go anyplace with him. He can only see himself as this "big time" DJ/Promoter and his only interest is doing whatever it take to satisfy his ego even if its at your expense, be it time or money! If you are really serious about this business, quit messing around and dump the unneeded baggage. You WILL be better off without the poison in the well.

You still haven't walked away from this "partnership" that (from the reader's point of view) isn't working? In my opinion, if you continue with this arrangement you are just asking for more and more issues and problems. Break it off and go your own way or just stay in this "situation" and wallow in the drama.

Mix you can't get different results doing the same thing but keep talking you are giving me ideas

Let me say things this way please. He has some nice ideals but is going about it the wrong way. I told him he needs to find a place to play at on a regular bases meaning he needs a place to play at least once a week where people can hear him play and get used to what he can do. They get to find out how really good he is. Take that once people get used to him there and then he can get a following from that and do parties other places. Build on his ideals that way. He thinks changing up on some of the music he plays to include today's clean hip hop and r & b will bring people to come to his parties. That won't get him more people to come. They must know who is and like what he does regardless of what kinds of music he plays.

That also means he needs to get other DJ's to work with him that people know and so that they don't get burned out from hearing just him play. Then once he gets established well enough then he will need to get artist to come to perform for his parties sometimes to bring variety to his parties instead of people just coming to hear a DJ play music. They have so many places where they can go to hear a DJ play. Which a lot of these places don't charge to get in. So that's not a big deal for people to come hear a DJ play unless you're super hot or have played on a major radio station.

I even tried to see if he was going back to doing internet radio. He said he was but not right now. He had a 2 hour slot on Wed. doing internet radio. He should start doing that again and when he wants to have a special party he can announce that on there along with having post cards to hand out to people. When he does these parties he can also when he sets it up to have post cards for the next party he is having that people will see and may want to come out to that one as well.

The big thing when doing this is it takes time to build things up. You just don't get to a level where 100's of people will come to a party you're having over night. You've got to work hard to get there. It takes hard work and dedication to get to that super star level where 100's people will want to come to an event you're doing. The people need to know the even will be safe and one that they will have fun. A lot of people are afraid to go out because they are afraid of what might happen in a bar/club around here. The 30 and older crowd will come out but only if they feel it will be a safe event without seeing a bunch of baggy pants jokers at the party possibly looking to start trouble.
