Controller Or No Controller

MC6000 - Best purchase i've ever made. I actually just sold off my last pair of Technics 1200's, i just have no use for them anymore since the upgrade.
There's nothing wrong with having both (I use the mouse, keyboard and controller as necessary). In fact the controller is relatively new (thank you Scott), but it does make a few operations simple when you're scrambling.
I deal enough with keyboards at the office. I enjoy the tactile nature of a controller. Reminds me a little of my Technics 1200s from back in the day. I still have a set as well as my first set of turntables (Gemini belt-drives :sqembarrassed: ).

I know lots of you folks like controllers and all, but statistically speaking, they are much likelier to break than a keyboard or mouse. They are also much likelier to lose a connection.
I'll give you the fancy lighted buttons look cool and sh_t, and chicks dig it. But take it from one who actually programs the stuff, and stick to a keyboard and mouse. If you will show me how you recover from a lost MIDI connection, I would love to see your code.
My sh_t has to work for thousands of people. Show me what you got...

Hit play on the CD deck and restart computer and controller, if that doesn't do it break out the backup and continue.
Right now I'm using a simple dual usb numark mixer for my crossfader and a mouse. I'd like to keep it that way but incorporated (not rely on) a simple controller so I can do some basic stutter starts and effects. DJ2GO I would hope would work for that. Just want to be able to keep the mouse in play. I hate trackpads
I have not been able to perfect stutter starts with my DJ2GO. Mind you I only tried it with the VDJ LE that comes with it. There is a slight delay/latency that drives me nuts. I didn't have the patience to look further into getting around it so use it for planning for gigs when on business travel, kids parties, and alternate backup.
I must be a caveman.
I use the Numark D2 Director.
It's bascially a dual CD player setup that plays mp3's.
I'm with Ologee. 40-hours a week on a keyboard and mouse is enough for me.
But I could get used to it, if need be.
For now, I like the simplicity of a controller.

I am kind of confused here. You say you use the Numark D2 Director, then you say you like the simplicity of a controller. Correct me if I am wrong but that Numark is not a controller. It is a media player that can access any hard drive. A Controller is a hardware interface that is connected to a DJ Software and thus one can manually control the DJ software without using a Mouse or Keypad if necessary.
It has controls on it....it's a controller/media player...
Maybe you should have clearly outlined your definition first.....I believe you can hook a keyboard up to is as well.....

I can see both sides of that one - I took controller to mean the midi controller for use with DJ software. It could have other meanings tho, if not defined. After all, Time Coded Vinyl (IMO) is not a controller.
I also believe that carrying my l'il Itch system (Vestax VCI-300) accomplishes the very same as 2 turntables and time coded vinyl - without having the need for all that hardware.

The D2, and similar items, can "control" the mp3 with a jog wheel,
so it can be used for scratching, beat mixing, pitch control, etc.
If you were talking about controllers that only work with laptops and software...

No problem Mike. I should have clarified things. Usually when people talk Controller they think Hardware that controls DJ software. Also when they say Software they mean something like VDJ, Serato etc not WMP.
While the all in one's are great, I just don't like the idea of having all my eggs in one basket. The HC4500's I have are just one part of the chain and can be bypassed if necessary.
Same here, that's one of the reasons I went with Itch - so all my eggs are not in one basket. Itch is a self contained system. In addition to Itch, I can bypass it and use other machines (just in case) and CD players, as well as other media devices.
