I-Tunes question

My brother needed some cash, And i recently acquired his 120 gig I-Pod. When i went to add some more music to it, It said it's "Synced to" My brothers computer.

So, if i want to sync it to MY computer, does that erase whats already on there??

Generally yes. Itunes sync is computer to device, so whatever is on the computer goes to the device. If you want the data on the ideveice to go to the computer, there are some workarounds. See: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

Thanks Steve...What a bunch of BS I'm glad i have never bought a I-pod why do they have to make things so damn difficult! I like my regular old mp3 player...just plug it in and dump some music on it...its not picky at all

FWIW, had the previous owner not been 'syncing', you would have been all set and things wouldn't be 'difficult'.

Because Apple wanted to control the distribution of material. They didn't want you taking an iPod, syncing it with a friends iTunes and then adding it to yours. It took them a few years to actually remove the "protection" on the songs that linked them to you specifically.

this is why I never sync anything.....all my Apple stuff is "manual manage music and video" only, avoids this issue

I was very anti-Apple myself years back.

I've had Rio Karma, Creative Zen, Sandisk, and even Zune.

When I finally went Apple, I was surprised how much it had improved. Plus I've always jailbroken my iDevices to get around any silly Apple restrictions/limitations.

Today I have iPad , iPhone, iPod touch, and even AppleTV.

Going with the industry standard has the pluses of a HUGE ecosystem of both apps & peripherals, which, IMO, far out weighs any of the Apple negatives.
