I take no chances. I have had to many clients tell me even with the added cost the ceremony would be in the same room and we would not need another system. And when arriving for rehearsal. I find the ceremony is on the other size of the room. If I hook up a lavalier then I charge for the ceremony. And by other wise of the room I mean 100 feet away. We are considered a high end service at a reasonable price. I'm happy with our price and the things we do.

For what it's worth, I too consider you as a high-end kinda guy and applaud your commitment to customer service........but......do you really feel $100 for a ceremony, that also happens to include an extra night's service, really screams "high-end" to prospective brides? I can't speak for you but if I were giving away my Friday nights for free first my wife would be screaming at me and second there are a whole bunch of gigs I'd miss out on working (and getting paid for).

Rick

Gen is a nice guy who is only looking for like 20 to 25 events a year. He has a full time job so he is not in the hunt for events like you and I are.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not taking a swing at him. He strikes me as a top-notch guy and I have a lot of respect for him. Respectfully, I do think it's a legitimate question. If you're trying to position yourself as a high-end player, what does it really say to the client when you're willing to do all that for $100? It's always seemed that anytime I've ever given clients freebies it just lowers their respect for me and they end up treating me like, well, a durn DJ. ;) No disrespect at all intended towards Gen.

I wonder how many brides would take the time to read a 26 page lecture on what NOT to do?
Especially when most wouldn't read ONE page to tell what they SHOULD do.

You make a good point, Mike. The majority will not, however that's not the objective. What they most certainly will do is look at the headline, look at the pictures, and visit our website because obviously we "must be the experts" when it comes to tent weddings. There are also other related vendors who are re-posting this on their own blogs. Any press is good press.

Hi Ricky, Yep that is a good question and the answers were fairly accurate. I'am only seeking about 25 weddings per year. Our normal charge in our area for a ceremony & reception is 1,000 dollars with the ceremony folded into the pricing. I normally raise our prices every year. But never the ceremony price. Yes I know its apples and oranges. I'm usually making more money on the receptions. Many times I have clients tell me they won't be needing my service for their ceremony. And then they hear the price and gladly add it. I'm kind of glad they do, given that most of these ideas are fails from a beginning when they want to do it on their own. My goal really is simple. Most of our money goes back into our business growing it in an intelligent way.

We are working for our retirement right now. We are probably the number one single op in our area. Though there are a few very very good Multi Ops in the area. I consider them truly my competition. Growing our base by referrals truly is a big goal for me. And many of the top venues in the area are pretty much dominated by those Multi Ops. Getting in them is the key. And when we do they love us and refer us. So really our goals and plans are simple. We always tell our potentials that we are a high end service at a medium based price. We are shooting for the upper middle class, college level or working young professionals. I truly believe we are perfect for their market. They all see a great service with a price that is not to high and not to low. Just what we promised.

Gen, sounds very logical and explains why the cheap ceremony price. Good thing your wife goes along with you. Mine would box my ears for being gone Friday without getting paid in full. Luck you. I do appreciate your candor and the spirit and excellence in which you handle your biz. As I said before, you challenge me in a lot of way to improve what I'm doing. Thanks for the input.

As someone that does over 100 wedding ceremonies a year I have to wonder nextgen.............................

Other then making the B/G happy that you were at their rehearsal what does going to the rehearsal accomplish that can't be done on the wedding day unless your wife is acting as the wedding coordinator for the ceremony also.

Cesar, I find that many times. I'm the most experienced person at many of our weddings. I also find that our brides "LOVE" coming down the isle to practice with the music for their wedding. I bring a very simple system to rehearsals. One tripod, one ipod and one battery powered speaker. Many times it allows me access to the venue and planners. Some of them I have not been to before, nor have I done a walk through, so it allows me to do this also. My ultimate goal is to give our clients a feeling of security of how their day will goal. And more times than I care to count, Our couples are confused or inexperienced and I help them through the whole process. Trust me when I say there are quite a few venues around my area that when they hear we are the MC/DJ's give us major props to the couple of such a wise choice.

What better advertisement could you ask for? Most or our planners and officiants around here love us as well. Our couples also know that I only come if I'm available, and so many of them plan their rehearsal around not just there family and friends but us as well. I work downtown Modesto. Were many of our weddings taking place, many times I will leave my day job after changing clothes and go right to the rehearsal. Short and sweet, well organized and prepared. And you are right Cesar. I hear it all the time from venues that DJ's don't come to the rehearsals. I want to be different but in a good way. I also know they Multi Ops that charge 500 - 1000 dollars more than me do come to them. Again they are truly my main competitors.

Here is the review from our last two weddings. Both of them referrals:

This DJ was so good! He was actually more than just a dj... He was the one who kept everything flowing.. Announced each part of the wedding, made jokes, and had wireless mic ready for speeches. He was very thorough in planning and his opinions were very helpful. He was always on top of everything and always responded in a timely manner. He had a page for us to plan our music we wanted from home. He even came to our rehearsal on his own time so we could practice with our music! He was very professional, arrived in a tux and made the event super fun! I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to have a stress free night. I was not worried one bit just based on how much we spoke during the planning process, he had everything ready... Full of energy great music we always had people on the dance floor. Great choice!!! No regrets at all!!!

DJ Dave and his wife made our wedding a night that will truly be remembered by everyone in attendance. Our neighbors had used TNG DJ for their wedding and we value their referral. They were extremely accommodating on meeting times, phone calls, etc. My husband and I really needed guidance on how the flow of the reception should go and luckily for us TNG had tons of experience. Dave communicated with all of our other vendors to make our night flawless. The voice over and the rose for the father/daughter and mother/son dance was such a special touch. TNG is so much more than a DJ service- he was the MC for the night and did great with that as well. Everyone we have spoken to has said great things about the music and dancing. He even made me a video of my father and daughter dance, which was so special because we didn't get a videotape of it! Means the world!

TNG is professional, accommodating, fun, organized, timely, etc. If you have a special event, especially a wedding, this is the company to choose! Not one complaint from us! Thank you TNG!

The video that the one bride speaks of was not done for her but for us. But she asked all her facebook people to post any pictures. She also had no one that filmed her father and daugter dance which we had done a voice over for. When I asked if she wanted it. She was surprised and very happy.

I'm a little surprised at your response.

I DJ most of my events at 4 different locations and all 4 of those have wedding coordinators that do wedding ceremonies every weekend. Where are all these places that you DJ at that schedule a wedding rehearsal and no one from the facility provides wedding coordinator service.

You tell me yours and I will tell you mine. And just because they have good ones at the 4 locations you work at does not mean that every place every where is the same. Many of the planners at many of our venues are young and not that experienced and again I tend to be the most experienced person there. Also many might be back yard weddings or on properties locally owned that sell themselves as wedding venues but offer no services nor do many banquet halls. I see no reason you should be surprised by my answer. You asked me why I do what I do. And I gave my answer. I do not believe what I do is for everyone nor would I think it should be. But it fits our business and my personality. Here I will give you one of mine (I'll go first). Its a perfect example beautiful place. Not much help while your there for a ceremony. Now give me one of yours. :trismug: The mansion was purchased in 1976 by my present day employer and then gifted to the city for restoration and for the public. Hell I'm in a mood here is another free one, now you owe me two. :triwink:

East Lake Ranch: Their site sucks, but they are beautiful. A lovely place but no help at all. Here is a photosite that has been shot there.
