My new DJ booth is on wheels but before that I always brought my own 6 'table with a black DJ Skirt and table topper. Most of the time when I get there they have an table where I am to set up so I would just take theres down and set my own up because my skirt is for a 6' table and most the time they had an 8' table set up( the table topper can extend to 8'). I still carry it in my trailer so if for some reason I can not get my DJ booth into the venue I can use the table. I have plenty of room in my trailer and just never wanted to risk them not having one for me to use

A 6 ft table lives in my van year round. A 10' x 10' EZ-Up lives in it all summer long. Usually the venue provides a table, however I will not be caught short. Self-reliance and proper planning go a long way.

Best,

Paul

There! I fixed that fer ya! ;) Don't worry! Yer not the only one!

thanks for fixing, but I am not worried. I don't think there was any question in anyone's mind who I was talking about, so to me, it doesn't matter one bit. I don't get caught up in being perfectly correct. Understanding is enough for me.

Just as I have been corrected about saying the word loose and lose at the wrong times (Either left out one or put in one too many of the "o") which was a pet peeve of Papa...my pet peeve is DJs calling prospects Clients and unmarried women Brides. ;) Nothing serious! Just having fun here. I am actually smiling. Ohh yeah!!!

We tell the client we don't need anything but 2 power outlets....and if there is a table where we are supposed to set up,. we ask the venue to remove it. Most of the time, it is a 6 or 8 foot table, and is too big for a facade. We have a 4 foot table that is the perfect size for our set up.

I also have one of the 4' folding tables (they have them at Costco and other warehouse stores). If you need a 6' table, they make folding ones like this (also at Costco):

I normally don't use one .. I bought a side shelf for my SKB gig rig and along with a laptop stand bolted to the rail, will hold everything without a table if necessary (It's what I use for karaoke due to space issues). It looks like this (I only use 1 shelf at the moment):

Seansy,
I also only have a car which I take to smaller events. For larger events, I rent a a Uhaul van. You might want to look into that and adding that expense into your price. I like bringing my own table since the table they give me is usually rickety or too big. I have the white scrim king for tables I like to use so my table 'glows.'

I get cha, but to me there is a difference between misspelling a word, misspelling a word that creates a different word(lose-loose) that could cause confusion or a different meaning, and using a term that may not be "technically" proper at the moment, but extremely obvious...and will be proper very soon. Unless there was a gaggle of of brides or bride-to-be's involved in one wedding, many people use the term "bride" before the actual ceremony...and no one gets confused:)

Should we start using the term Bride-to-bezilla?:)

Mother of the Bride to be?:)

Are we the DJ for the reception?...or are we the "DJ to be", and only become the DJ once the reception starts?:) Should they really call you a DJ since you don't use discs?

Technically, they should call you a ESFJ, an Electronically Stored File Jockey:)

ipods are pretty small Rick. :tritongue:
I have brought a table for the past 10 yrs as I have seen some that you couldnt put a copy cup on without concern for its safety. I fit nicely on a 4 foot table and when I was using my Denon setup it was podium style with its own stand. I like Next Gen only rely on proper power determined before I arrive and space. If they put up a 6ft table or smaller I now will use it with my custom table topper but it looks rather weird if I take up four foot of space when they provide an 8or ten foot table. Wait I used an 8 foot Monday as my setup time was 30 minutes for after the grad ceremony into dinner. Most cases I provide my own. I have found that even though I tell the venue co ordinator though they forget and have to remove one they set.

My current set up doesn't need a table, but I have to admit sometimes I get bored with bringing the same thing and after awhile I will use the table top system,,,, I carry a table at all times just in case.... in my 27 years of full time DJing I have met some stupid people who didn't have a table for me, I have met stupid brides who said they had one and didn't, I have met stupid venues that have said opps, we used them all and I have met stupid people who didn't know what a DJ was.... I really hate stupid people.

I have a paragraph at the end of the contract, "Special Notes:" where I state the styles of music that I will play during the event..."xxxxx will provide a variety of music for listening and dancing; (list the general styles). The next sentence, "One (1) 8-ft. rectangular banquet table and one (1) chair will be made available for DJ use. Table to be skirted." This way the Client knows to make sure when she contracts with the venue to have that included. However, I always carry two (2) 4-ft "lifetime" tables (white) with me to every event; one in the trailer and one in the back seat of the Highlander on which I slide my CD road cases of music and other items.

In the event that I am doing an outdoor function, I also specify that "DJ and equipment to be protected from the elements: direct sunlight, rain, wind/dust" and "Suitable electrical power to be provided to DJ setup." So far I've not had many problems.

When I get to the venue and find that only an 6-ft table (skirted) has been provided I simply bring in a 4-ft table and place it behind me so that both are in railroad style =. I then ask for a soiled white tablecloth to drape over the 4-ft table. They usually bring me a clean cloth, but on a couple of occasions I was given a "used" cloth. Not a problem.

However, last event that I did was an outdoor event. Client said they were providing a tent and/or canopy. I specified the size of the canopy needed to be sure that ALL of my equipment would be under cover; power to the DJ location, too.
When I got there there was nothing in place. Good thing I always arrive in plenty of time. Since this was an outdoor site in their back yard, I arrived about 3-hr prior to guest arrival time. As I said, there was no NOTHING setup when I arrived. It was a 50th Birthday party. The weather forecast was for no rain. Good thing 'cause my equipment would have gotten wet and so would the guests. Because no rain was in the forecast the client (she) didn't order the tent.
But, they had a Pop-Up canopy that they were going to but up. They were behind in setting up the yard which they did a great job, even had a 20 x 20 portable (rubber square) dance floor.
To make this story shorter, the Birthday Boy and I setup the canopy which was probably a 10' by 10'. They did have an 8-ft table for me. It didn't rain. I was able to direct where the "tent" would be erected. Speakers had to be placed outside the canopy...and to my amazement there was no "dew" that night! But, the canopy was shaded by a stand of trees so only minimal sunlight hit one of the speakers, but only for an hour.
So, I am now in the process of seeking out the best pop-up 14x14 canopy with air-vent at top I can find for future potential outdoor events. I'll be prepared for next time. Plus, when they state that they will have to see about a tent for my protection, I can offer for them to rent mine. A good win-win situation.

Gee...was that stretching it a bit for only a "table use" reply.

What the heck is a copy cup?

have always had my own tables for jobs
never had to use them because all the venues I go to
all have EXTRA tables to use.....

nope never in 35 years had to bring mine at a venue
now doing one in a private home is totally different!!....

I ask for one in my contract.
Also, I pretty much play at the same places all the time, and I know what they provide.
