They do look really nice. Alto has been around for a long time .. used to be from Italy. not sure where now.

I thought Alto was Yorkville? Wes, where do you see Numark?
I thought it was Yorkville as well, but it doesn't show up as a brand on their web, so maybe it was sold off or they were only an importer at one point.

Alto used to be distributed by Yorkville in North America, but I believe that's as far as the arrangement went. The brand was owned by a Taiwanese company called Seikaku and for a while Alto was presented as an Italian company with manufacturing facilities in China (believe what you want, but those "Made In Italy" stickers may not be 100% accurate). Numark purchased the brand from Seikaku last year.

"Alto Professional will join the growing roster of brands owned by Numark, which now comprises Alesis, Akai Professional, Mixmeister and Ion Audio"

I read that quick and thought they had acquired MixMasterMachoMan ...

They tried but he was a little bit high when they called ;)

It looks like this Black line is new, I can't find them being sold anywhere and I am curious to know what they cost. I have been eyeing their regular line that is sold at Guitar center and on amazon and ebay. Very, very inexpensive. The question is, are they any good? I have been wanting to go take a look and listen at the local Guitar Center, but I just have not made it over there.

A DJ buddy of mine was looking to upgrade and we did a comparison of his ALTO TrueSonic TS115A vs. EV ELX115P vs. JBL PRX615. The Alto sounded 'okay' when listened to first but as soon as we listened to the other two brands, it was obvious the TS115A sounded like poo. It peaked waaay early and didn't get nearly as loud as either of the other two tops. The highs had that fizzle sound to them. We also had a listen to the Alto SX112. Seeing the "800 WATT peak" banner, my boy thought he'd be in for an audible treat but was very disappointed. It sounded VERY shrill, lifeless and grainy. I will say, the prices of the current GC Alto units are extremely cheap. If you're a beginner DJ on a serious budget, the Alto TS115A is pretty tempting. I'd prefer the Mackie Thump 15 in comparison though. It sounds slightly better overall and seems much, MUCH lighter. Even the the TS115A says 39 lbs., it feels more like 59 lbs.

This Alto Black Series looks like a step in the right direction for them. The built-in wireless tuning/streaming could be pretty useful PLUS the unlike the prior models, these speakers actually look good. Not sure about the sound quality though.

What's with the put down on Numark. My first cd player when I came back was the CDN 88. That's a nice peice. All companies make low grade to high grade gear. It's just that some companies high grade stuff is garbage.

One of the salesmen I know in GC tried to get me to buy those speakers. I wouldn't even dare listen to them. He said a lot of people picked those speakers over the Yamaha's I bought. The only reason they bought them is because the price is much cheaper. You pay for what you get. You buy cheap and you get cheap. Buy once and forget it. Those speakers are garbage made in England now.

Mix you wouldnt even listen to them yet you make your PROFESSIONAL comments about them? Yamahas are decent speakers but they arent the end all and certainly on the upper level. They are amongst the top of the cheap bottom level stuff. Not all Yamaha is bad but what you got is their entry level stuff. Certainly not their pro grade.

I don't think these Black Series speakers will actually be out for a while ... There is minimal info on their web, no pictures of the amp side of the speaker, no spec sheets, etc. I think it was to unveil them at the show (forget which) going on this week and we'll probably see them late summer.

What I got is pro stuff! I got the DSR tops and subs. They are great. No composite so far. Oh there is one. Yours.

Now check this out. We love to play the game about gear. My experience is a lot of the really top of the line gear cost a lot of money. Some just don't have that kind of money. Those ALTO speakers are ok. Especially if you're first starting out and don't have a mint to buy something else.

They claim those tops can deliver 800 watts. That's got to be a 2 ohm load for the price of those speakers. As for what I bought I got the best my money could buy and I'm proud of what I bought. No most of us on here are probably past ALTO speakers as we know there is better and I'll bet most of us have better. Not everybody has the luxury of being able to buy what some of us have. Good luck with what you have.

The big question is are you happy with what you have?

While you were playing with your CDN-88, Numark was busy producing a lot of lemons. The CDN-88 was the exception. It's pretty safe to say that until the NS7 controller was introduced, nobody gave Numark a second look.

The more you talk, the more we learn how little you know. Alto speakers are made in China.
