Ok the back story... I have a program that will break down a directory/drive full of mp'3s and not only does the normal stuff like artist, album, song title but also by genre. The program is a bit buggy (does not like very large directory especially if it has many sub directors (like if your music directory is split up into albums) the program is called mp3explorer. So for the fun of it I ran a search of my music hard drive using Windows 8 search built in search engine, I typed dubstep, not only did it find songs with the word dubstep in the name but also if the mp3 was properly tagged it also found it by genre. Next i tried by bmp and it found sounds by bmp also. I tried the same search on my Windows 7 box and it did not do this. So if your mp3's are properly tagged you can search them by any word or phrase embedded in the tag using Windows 8 search engine. What do you think of this feature?

Traktor Pro Does All that and more! One can also use Tag Scanner (Free Download) which does that for you. If I am not mistaken, Mixmeister can do it to! It is not Rocket Science anymore. I am sure Rockit can do it do, ask Rick!

I know most dj software does this, but for the casual windows user (or if you don't want to start your dj software) or for the few of us that likes using windows search this is great that we do not have to install another software to properly search our music directory. this feature also works for properly tagged video files also.

windows search is not as good as you might think!

they ripped it from another software developer that (no names please)
went over to open source and microcrap has 1/2 the working search system..

omg dude, do you EVER have anything useful to say? He is saying he likes the new way that Win8 finds not just filenames, but also tags and other metadata. Can't you just be happy for him? My gosh.

And yes, VDJ can do it as well, you can even search by the son's key, folder, folename, etc... but you can also use a checkbox system to exclude things you don't want to search in. I usually uncheck the filename box when I am looking for a specific title.
But I love that Win8 does read more than just filenames. As a remixer, I often work with JUST the files, and so the new search parameters work very well for me :)

Good call drzinc!
