Mixer is a decent unit, 1530s sound pretty good from what I remember, but I have seen issues with the built-in amps going prematurely. Not sure about the subs, but the SR1500 is a match for the SRM450s and not the larger 1530s. $2800 seems a bit high for the vintage. I would say $450 for the mixer, $1000-$1200 for the tops (bear in mind the possible amp issues) and $1000 for the subs, so maybe $2400-$2500 for the 3.

Mackie's track record stinks since sold to Loud Technologies. If it were me, I'd steer well clear of this package...if I did buy it, I'd bring two systems to the gig 'cause I wouldn't trust it!

Best,

Paul

Thanks guys...So far the system would be part of an install at a venue where they would use one of the 1530's for a ceremony right outside from time to time. I know the owner. I know he takes good care of his gear and I know it was used. So this tells me he probably got a "good batch" of actives once upon a time.

I have to agree. $2400 seems more reasonable.

The only issue with using the 1530 as a ceremony speaker is it isn't light (111 pounds), so getting up on a tripod to reach the crowd may be an issue if there isn't a high perch available.

Steve...excellent point. I was thinking KW's for this place...but the mixer is nice at least....subs too?

Even the KW 3 ways are heavy. For a system that's going to be used and setup by various people, they'd be better with something lighter like the K series .. even the Mackie SRM450, which sound harsh on pure music, do a nice job for vocal projection at a ceremony.

Not familiar with the subs, so can't comment. No issues I can see, but just not a close match to those tops .. better with a smaller setup (12" or 10" tops).

Blah Blah Blah! I've had my two 1500 subs & matching (Italian)450s in 2002 & two more (China)450s 2 years ago. I have never had a single problem with any of them. Then again, I don't push them to the limit ever. Never clipped or overheated. The only difference that I have noticed is that I have to run the 450s together. What I mean by that is I have to pair up the older ones together or the newer ones together. There is a slight volume difference when I tried to use 1 of each. Ironically they all work fine when daisy-chained together. I'm not as tech savvy as most of you so I can't really explain why. Mackies have been good to me, no complaints!!!

What do you mean when you said daisy chained? Are you running in mono? How exactly are you hooking them up?

watch out Eddie Canutes Muzzle is off. I know what Eddie means by daisy chaining. pass thru on left channel to next speaker and pass thru on right to next speaker. I know you were salivating Canute too bad you dont get to go for the jugular. Eddie I had both and if you run the Chinese 450's beyond cocktails and dinner and push them much at all the mids begin to make your ears bleed. Remember I had both as well. The mystery meat chinese drivers you got may have been selling cheap at that time and didnt have the same problem as mine but from what I experienced and others as well have, the newer ones are not equal.

Jon,
It is always better that I first ask before saying anything. I have actually seen guys take the right out of their mixer plug it into one speaker top then use the out from that speaker top to the other speaker. They then take the left Out and plug in to the bass and then out from that bass to the other bass. Very pitiful! Music sound like half the band was on break when the song was recorded.

your too predictable though Canute its why many think you are circling the wagons ready and assuming the kill is awaiting you. Its all good I just had to chuckle reading your post knowing the thought process and your anticipation.

Well if you remember some of my earlier posts a few years ago, there were some on here using "Y" connectors backwards. Had I not said anything they may still be doing the same thing. I see a lot of bad hookups and miswiring of things that is why it does not surprise me. I try to set the record straight when I can. That does not mean it is my way, it is simply the correct way!
