Here's an interesting one for you. We have a bike race coming to town in August. The finish is two miles up a steep mountain. We plan to host a DJ party somewhere along the final 2 mile route. (100's of people marching up and down the road. Complete chaos) They will close the road the day before to all but local traffic. No camping or gear drop off. The only traffic allowed the day of will be bikes and pedestrians. I can manage the climb with a borrowed electric assist bicycle. I can even pick up a fairly longish bike utility trailer with easy-rolling wheels. I have a 2000 watt inverter generator that weighs about 40lbs. 200lbs should probably be our max load. What sound system can we build that weighs 160lbs and can run on 2000watts? If we need more power, I could maybe find a 3,000 watt generator around 60lbs. Go!

That is a great idea Cesar (did I just say that?)
If residential ask around if there is a house you can store it at. If comercial there should be business you could hook up with a couple days prior

Djgoodsteve,

Are you talking about the Pro Cycling Challenge? I attended 4 stages last year and plan to return to Colorado again for this years race. And your right, its complete chaos on the mountain. Heres a clip I took last year on Independance pass-

I'm planning to set up my ELX112ps and ELX118ps on Indy Pass (I've been reading with great interest the posts on heat and thermal shutdowns). The race goes over twice. I'm hoping to set up on Flagstaff here in Boulder for stage 6... but the race director says they won't allow anyone up the hill till the day of. The mountain is surrounded completely by wilderness... no residential. I have considered loading at the top of the mountain and riding the gear down... but weight is still an issue. My mountain bike disc brakes likely won't hold the first hairpin turn with 200lbs of gear and 180lbs of man. I'm also considering asking friends to get out the Burley carts and each guy totes a component up the hill. Just thought this was a fun project to consider! Was thinking maybe some ZXA1's. Or K12's? (I could buy a lot more ZXA1's)

Here's a quick video of our setup on Swan Mountain during last year's Breckenridge stage.

Not sure I would pack subs .. the impact they would provide would be fairly minimal in the open .. would prefer a double set of tops. Depending on how long it's going, an option would be battery powered units like the Anchor Audio Liberty, Carvin Stagemate, or the new Samson ones. They'll probably go 1.5-2 hours but wouldn't need a generator

+1 on that - the subs would have minimal impact outside in the open.

The race will only last a few minutes so its all about the party. This is event has the feel of Mardi Gras, Halloween, and New Year and costume party wrapped into one. Oh yeah, then throw a bike race in at the end.

DJGoodSteve, Getting a system up Indy pass should be no problem since they will let you camp roadside before/during the event. But get somebody up there a couple days early hold you a camping spot. As you know, space near 12,000 feet is very limited. You never know, I may run into you up there.

I'll look for you Audio One. Hopefully you'll hear us! We camped the night before on Swan. The party on the highway at midnight was the best part... shined the lights on the trees and had our own little Burning Man. Best part was when the Sheriff asked the two hot dogs to get in car... so he could take a picture:

Just take a pair of FBT ProMAxX 14a speakers and call it a day. They only weigh 36.4 lbs each and will put out 127.5dB cont. / 135.5dB max SPL.

That FBT looks like about the sames specs as the ELX115p but 14lbs lighter. That's a big light box... spendy... but fits the request! Wonder if it's not more durable as well in that plastic box.

The FBT will have that Chinese built entry level EV for breakfast.

Don't get me wrong, I think EV makes some of the finest sounding boxes out there but you can't compare the Chinese built Live X series with the ProMaxX cab; they are in two separate leagues. Contrary to today's popular beliefs, cheaper is not always better. :bzno:

I have no doubt the FBT is a solid performer. The price jump is still just enough to keep me waffling between it and the EV. Do you have an opinion on the RCF ART 312a? It's in the same price category as the EV and seems to get some praise out on the interwebs.

sorry but the only benefit of the EONs these days is the light weight portion of the unit. Funny thing is they sound like there is nothing inside and probably why they are as light as a feather.

I have zero issues with the sound of the 515xt's. They sound a lot better than most of the speakers I see people with. Now does the 515xt's sound as good as my QSC KLA12's no, but for what I purchased the 515zt's for they do the job and more.

I have had many many setups thru the years and each had a purpose when I purchased them. I do not try and compare my KW181's to the Afterburners that I had back when I was doing raves, just like I don't try and compare the 515xt's to my old JBL HLA setup.
