Did a local elementary fundraiser last night. Thought I'd share some photos. I've done this one for three years in a row. I certainly don't have the amazing rig I've seen from many of you, but this one seems to evolve each year into something better. I've used several different lights over the years and short of investing in gobos (someday soon) I've decided I really like the ADJ Starballs and Jellydomes. Rather than hang 12 different types of lights off a tree or truss, I like the uniform look of the same lights. I have yet to find a facade that I really like and honestly, I like being amongst the crowd, not behind the presidential podium. I had a choice of blocking the stage off and keeping the kids on the floor, but I know they like to dance on stage so I let them come up. I know many of you have more expensive gear to protect, I'm pretty agile with the laptop and Traktor case. Having them all dancing with me on stage was honestly pretty fun. I taped down my cables, but I was in a bit of a hurry so they aren't perfect. The one cable obviously not squared away is a mic cable. The principal was the MC that night. The biggest surprise was how many of these 7-11 year-olds we're asking for "Sexy and I Know It", a song I wasn't planning to play. When I finally broke down, these kids sang it word for word. I guess this is the tune mom and dad play on the way to school each day? My kids don't know it... very well. ;) Love my Rock n Roller cart by the way... and Connie's Covers!

Its not a surprise to me.....alot of kids are listening to music not for there age. I do my usual (this years the 5th year) annual neighborhood 4th of July party, ranging from 2 yr. old's to elders.....about 100 people.......so I was going to play most of the top 40, all clean versions, regular party songs (cha cha slide, cotten eyed joe, etc) and 80's and 90's music. I had a 7 year old come up to me WITH his father next to him, and ask me to play "Young, Wild, and Free"????? WOW! Yes, I had the song, but I did not play it......the worst song I played all night was "Shots- Lil John" towards the end of the night by request from the adults when the little ones left, and even that was the clean version......

Looks great Steve ..

One other quick thought... I definitely need to pick up some speaker tilts. Pointing the tops down into the crowd would have improved the sound greatly. No one noticed (as far as I know), but the sound was bouncing off the back wall all night. Tilts are about $50 each for the basic K&M models. I spent some time wandering the aisles at Home Depot trying to come up with an alternative. Sadly copper pipe, black pipe and PVC just don't match speaker stand diameter. Just seems like a simple component like this shouldn't run $100 for a pair. The QSC K-series ball sockets are looking pretty good now.
