I would like your input on which series you chose (K12? K10?) and why? Do you use the series matching K sub? What applications/situations do you use them in and why? What was the deciding factor on your choice over other brands/models? I am considering a change from all EV gear (4 SXA360's/SB2A subs) to the K series. Thanks in advance for your help.
 
You arent sold on EV? Your move is strange to me. EV Live X series is ruling the sales these days and natural wood boxes. QSC are fine but the Live X series is the best even if they were at the QSC price point but they are considerably less money.
 
Hi Jon, I am very happy with the ev sxa360's they have been workhorses for me. However I am considering the k series for more power, more versital set up choices, deeper bass, etc. Do you use the K series?
 
No I have had been around them a few times and Im ok with them but will be adding to my arsenal and it wont be the K series or the JBLs. I will be getting the LiveX 12's and 18's and also possibly a pair of the ZX tops and mini sub system.
 
FWIW, I have the complete HPRi series. I'm keeping them. Not much more I can say.

While I don't own the K series, I have a friend that does and I evaluated them extensively before my recent purchase. I went with the JBL PRX612m because of name recognition (I also do live sound) and overall balance, but when I did the eval, the top 3 boxes were the K12, the EV112 and the JBL PRX. There are some notes in another thread, but my take was the EV was best for recorded music due to an inherent High/Low emphasis (DJ scoop), the K12 best for live (especially acoustic) due to a mid emphasis, and the JBL was the more neutral speaker (all speakers set flat). All were good and as Jon said, the EV is probably the best value, though the paint finish is not as good as the others.

One friend in a band chose the K10 due to the wider dispersion than the K12, as they don't perform in large spaces normally, so reach wasn't needed, but width was. They have the KSub which, IMO, is severely lacking. They use only one, and it helps, but nowhere near what the KW 181 does (or any of the other single 18s).

You didn't specify your use needs (applications/situations as you said), so it will be tough to give much more advice.

Steve, my uses range from small/medium weddings to proms, homecoming dances, birthday/anmniversary parties, car shows, crabfests, beef & beers, etc. A very wide gambit of gigs. My EV 360's are great and they have served my well. I heard the K12's for the 1st time the night and I was amazed at how balanced and full they sounded. The bass, especially at low volume was rich & full. So I am at a crossroads. Do I just add a sub (zxa1 maybe to my ev's, or get a pr. of k12's and forego a sub altogether. Also space is a factor for me as I have to fit everything (sound system, back up, table, poles, computers, cd back up, lights etc.) into a kia sportage. So if I do not need to carry a sub, and get great low end from the k12's that would be a bonus.
 
K12's work great without a sub, but for dance music, especially in larger rooms, you'll need a sub and probably 2. I wouldn't sweat whether the sub matched the tops in brand, but I'd use an external crossover or driverack if they weren't matched. For the uses you list, I would go with the K12 or the K122.
 
For most weddings, I use RCF 4pro4001's - or QSC HPR153I's - and no subs - I have one karaoke show that has an awful loadin/out, so I bought a pair of QSC K-10's for that - and very happy with them....I've had two or three DJ's ask me what sub I'm using - answer: not using one - Also have a Ksub to use with K-10's and K'8's - (which I bought for ceremonies) - Not as good as the big boxes, but certainly not ashamed of the performance - probably two k-subs would be better - we have a club locally with two k-12's and two k-subs - on live they are excrutiatingly loud - I think they'd be better with the wider spread on k-10's than with the k-12's - beam width too narrow for that club IMHO...
 
WOW!!! As highly touted as the K series is among DJ's, Im am really dissapointed in the lack of response by K series users to this thread. I appreciate & thank those who have responded, but I guess I expected more. Oh well.
 
I have the K-12's and had no problems with them. I do like all the input options. If its a small event, then the deep setting with no sub will work ok. If its a large event where dance music will be played, I use a different system with subs. Overall I like the K-12's. I have not found any one speaker that do all for all events. The reason I got the QSC's was my connection to the dealer.

Paul - Do you run them like that or stack the tops on the subs or pole? It would seem the mids and highs would be lost in the dance crowd and not reach out very far only 3 feet off the ground.
 
I have stacked the 153i's on top of the subs. This wedding I knew going in was a drinking crowd as there was open bar all nite. One intoxicated female guest started one of the 153i's on it's way over, however I caught it in time. I wasn't too keen on stacking them, even if I had used tie-downs as I do.

There was some tweeter blockage, however they were also a hip-hop crowd, all dancing. It went very well. So well that I had contact with one of the guests the other day for us to do her wedding in 2013.

With this type of Stage setup, my DJ's don't like the look - but I'll put the towers on the back
part of the stage - usually angled slightly outward - That way, I can hear exactly what the guests
hear - and I don't have the problem of people coming up on stage and knocking them over - I had a drunk photographer climb up top of a Mackie 1530 - Geez - Talk about liability issues - Ughh !

Too loud you might say - I say if it's too loud for me - it's just too loud period....

Highly touted???? Maybe highly touted by by QSC's own marketing department who came up with the goofy naming scheme making people think they are really getting 1,000 watts. 500 watts to the woofer and 500 watts to the tweeter? Really? :rolleyes:

They are some of the better MI level boxes out there .. power rating not withstanding. And JBL rates theirs exactly the same way.
 
I'm thinking of selling my Yorkville Unity tops/subs and getting the KWs. I just bout the PRX, and they're ok, but heard a KW112 that I really liked. Would like the 15" 3 way, but I think it may be a bit too heavy at this point.
