That was a nice deal on 7D for sure!.....I shoot Nikon. Have a D3, D2x, D7000 and a D90. Bunch of nice Nikon glass too. LOL, no money left! I'm hoping I get enough photo business this season, if so I'm going to pop for a new D4 and clear out a few others.

I was a Nikon guy until I started shooting sports .. seemed all the other sports photogs shot Canon, so I bought the 7d. Also have a 5dii. I would love a 1d, just don't have a spare $6K, and since I don't do it as a business, it's tough to justify.
 
The 5d is much better for portraits. The full-frame sensor does much better in low light. I can push it almost 50% more than the 7d, from about iso 1600 on the 7d to 2400 on the 5d with similar results, so ambient light shooting is definitely better (for stationary objects). There isn't much difference in overall resolution (21 vs 18MP). Unfortunately for sports, it doesn't focus as fast as the 7d, doesn't fire as quickly, and the 7d's crop sensor helps wring out a bit more on the telephoto, so I will probably get rid of the 5d once the 7diii comes out as planned later this year (or the also anticipated 70d).

Is the 7d a full frame sensor?
 
No. Same size as your T1i, just higher resolution.
 
I love my full-frame D3. There's a time and a place for the DX frame though, due to the crop factor it essentially adds. aprox. 1.5x to my my full frame lenses. Now my 300mm FX is aprox 450mm, and without the use of a doubler, thus more light to sensor.

LOL Nikon & Canon, kinda like Ford & Chevy. I like them both, I just chose Nikon for myself. I don't feel you can go wrong either way. All my bodies have the motor drive function, I can use a seriously large selection of Nikon glass.

Anyone considering Nikon I would suggest the D7000 as a great start point. A LOT of camera for the money.

It would be a toss-up between the D7000 and the 7d. I had a Nikon 40d .. ruined the body on a trip to Niagara Falls 2 years ago, so decided to start over. If Nikon had a D90 replacement or even a D300 replacement then (the 7000 hadn't come out yet), I probably would have went that way. I do want a Canon 1D, but they keep moving the price point up .. it's close to 7K now for the do-all 1Dx .. even the 1D Mk4, which is a good sports camera is over $4K.

I have close to $5K in lenses, so I'm not changing anytime soon.
 
We use a D90 with a Nikon 70-200 zoom and Tamron 17-50 not the best in regards to equipment BUT so far so good. I have learned the most important thing is having the talent to get "the shot." I do not have this, fortunately my wife seems to
 
Nothing wrong with the D90 (or the similar Canon 50d/60d). I wanted something a little faster for sports shooting which is my primary interest.
 
I love my D90. You can get fantastic shots with it. The body does not the photographer make. I still always have to be sure of my composition prior to hitting the go button!

D90 Example below. I was NOT the wedding photographer. I had a release to take pics for my own use, thus the wedding party are not facing me, except for the tall blonde on the right. She was very attractive!. The actual photog was cool. We talked a bit.

This is where I LOVE my D3. I can push upwards of 12,000 ISO and get a very nice pic. This is good inside the Church where most frown on flash use. I have an 85mm F1.4 Nikon portrait lens, bokeh like butter! Works well in these situations. I get a lot of use as well at most weddings from my Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 VR zoom as well.
