American made?

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
My amp rack is a mish mash of components and my speakers are the same. I do not live or was born in the USA so in my culture it was Made in Japan for electronics and Made in Canada for speakers. Both my Big subs are US companies and one is made in th USA and the other Mexico Thy preform at the same level but the American made sub is built better. But the opposit is true for my power amps, the Chinese built amp is built and preforms better than the US made piece although rated for the same RMS wattage. My favorite audio company is now own by D&M Holdings a Japanese company but operates much like it did when it started, that said company is McIntosh Labs.

McIntosh Amps are cream of the crop. I used one in the 70s but sold it for fear of the glass front breaking. I wish I had kept it. They are still very expensive, even the used ones in the Pawn shops sell for close to and above a grand for the lesser models.

Just a thought -- Macs are far overrated IMHO. Yer paying huge bucks for bragging rights!

Some of the tube gear coming out of China, designed by others, will blow your mind in sound quality. I'd put it against any Mac or Fischer, without batting an eye. And at one tenth the price.


Now, when America can start producing that kind of quality again at home (at affordable prices), I will stand proud :)
 
I've never had much luck with Herr Behringer. Feedback Destroyer? Sound Destroyer was more like it. Tried a mixer a long time ago. You could hear the sound of wind blowing thru it. Noise floor was horrible. I'm glad others have good luck with them....for sure not for me.

I never said all Behringer products are great or even good, but as a company I don't think they are worse than anyone else. Feedback destroyers as a class of devices are all crap when left in automatic mode because they keep looking for feedback and fatten up their banding when they run out of filtering, however when used as the narrow band equalizer that they are and used as a single pass on ring out they do serve their purpose. Personally I use a good old 31 band EQ for that.

+1 on the Macintosh Amps. I have one of their car amplifiers and my godfather has some of their home audio equipment.

Good thread. I was just thinking about this subject. I saw a recent post about the new EV ZXa1 sub. I had a look at the picture and saw it looked very similar to the EV LiveX (Chinese Made) series. It turns out that this new sub in Made in China. I know the rest of the ZXa line is Made in USA but I wonder if EV is trying to transition all of their lines to overseas assembly. If so... I'm out and will focus my future speaker products on Danley Sound Labs.
 
If memory serves, most of Carvin's gear is still made in California. Or assembled there anyway. This doesn't include Carvin-branded OEM pieces.

China is fast approaching the point Japan reached in the 1970s. The quality is up and production costs are stable. Japanese workers were well-paid and eventually, production of electronics goods migrated to Hong Kong. Hong Kong got rich and costs rose there. Production moved away.

With growth comes an expectation of an improved standard of living. Already, worker strikes in Chinese factories have disrupted production... and they haven't seen the last of it. People simply aren't going to settle for pennies on the dollar forever. They want new cars and nice things like everyone else. For example, GM is selling more cars in China than any country outside the U.S.

In time to come, China will lose its status as the world's exporter. As the country's standards of living increase, so will manufacturing costs. The U.S. dollar at a low accelerates the cost of Chinese exports.

For those who manage their investment portfolios, emerging markets are in countries that never would have been thought of as economic engines a decade ago. Keep an eye on Vietnam. :)

I wonder if all of these uprisings and regime changes in middle-eastern (oil) territories are just a ploy to secure pipelines to Asian countries.
 
Here's a site showing some of the US music manufacturers (http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/music.html) .. I didn't see Danley on there, but I believe they are made here. And I use Yorkville speakers currently, so I'll throw a bone to our Canadian friends .. they're almost Americans anyway :trirolleyes:

Scott: Try one of these: So simple. Bring up mic till she chirps, all done. Transparent. Complete no brainer and LOL..........:) Made in USA!

Last thing in my chain before the amps running passive. Totally transparent. I can bypass it on the front panel, no change in sound. LOL, drunken wedding dood toasting the groom and leaning on yer speaker? Not a peep of feedback! Best, Paul
