IPad/Tablet Vs Laptop

Right now, I wouldn't be brave enough to try and run an entire show off of an iPad or two. I didn't compare to other tablets. Most other tablets are Android based and some have the ability to use memory cards for expanded storage but the options are extremely fragmented once you step outside of Apple's walled garden.

I love my ipad. I use it a lot in my DJ business. I use it for presentations to clients and to enter client info at a meeting. At the event, my ipad is in incredible tool. I use it for Mcing. I used to have just a printed sheet of paper that I made changes to with a pen. Now, I can make changes right on the ipad and then use an app called teleprompter+ and all the names are HUGE and they scroll and are lit up.
It's also a good remote. With an app called splashtop, I can completely control my computer from my ipad. It just needs some type of wireless connection. I haven't tried this way yet, but i'm told that even a wireless router that has no internet connection will work to connect the 2.
The beauty of the ipad is it's portability. At least at this point, if using it for Djing, it would need to be plugged in to something, and you'd lose the portability, so you wouldn't be gaining any advantage over a laptop.

Have any of the windows tablets or android tablets sold anything significant? It would be good to see some good competition for the ipad

The biggest drive I've seen to date is 32 gigs. Anybody seen any tablet with enough storage to hold an entire library? (50+ gigs)

I always look these things price, functionality and more over safety so i always prefer laptop over ipad.

I'll byte... 
Starting w/ 2008, I took ALL the MP3s I played (amounts to appx 2600) and that fits nicely into a 32gb card. And I have a Bluetooth stereo adapter coming from HK.
Right now, I can cover pretty much ANY gig off my Thunderbolt (if I was so inclined). Armed w/ all event playlists from 2008, it has every style/genre covered.
Just make a folder for the MP3s and then drop your playlists into the sdcard/playlist folder and Winamp will aggregate the tracks w/o respect to actual locations.
That is my emergency solution. That and Amazon and I could fill any request. Just cannot 'wiki wiki' and beat match. DJ Studio 2 is nice and Party Mixer is also nice as well. If only Winamp had real 2 deck auto mix ability.
I have a Toshiba Thrive coming and will fit it w/ 32gb sdcard and that will become my ultimate emergency and go to unit. For presentations and to replace my conventional paperwork at an event. And using slashtop to connect to home base if need be. Use my Thunderbolt for wifi tether if no wifi at the venue.
In a nut shell, still see laptops and conventional PCs or head units for now. And use tablet toys for emergency use only.
