I disagree with spreading subs. There is cancellation unless you have them about 40 feet apart. At weddings and dressed up functions I typically corner or wall load subs keeping them out of the way and sometimes draping them so they look like a table. When draped I make sure that the waitstaff knows they are speakers so they don't put trays on them. :trirolleyes:

There really isn't a comb effect at the frequencies a sub reproduces .. maybe some lobing, which actually is smoothed out a bit by spreading the subs. For live music, I will generally spread them (primarily as I use the subs as bases for my tops). For a dance floor, coupling may be preferred as it places the bass closer to the dance floor and reinforces it at the same time.

I agree if you spread them, they should be spread enough to minimize the lobing .. say 25' min .. otherwise, you're basically covering the dance floor and you might as well couple.

Again it comes down to the space that I have to use and the acoustics of the room (I will NOT compromise sound for aesthetics, sorry!) I have also used the Black Linen cloth over my subs before but as Scott said, it is sometimes viewed as a table top. I am not worried about the drinks resting on top as much as the vibration causing the glasses and plates to be shaken off and breaking when they hit the floor.
BTW as most know, I am an advocate of spreading my speakers so they are usually a minimum of 40 feet apart when space is tight.
