Looking for opinions on 12" powered speakers

I'm going to resist looking at 15" 2 ways .. primarily because I want something light, as unobtrusive as possible, but still able to handle a good amount of my work (with/without subs). I have JBL MP-215s (passive) and have had Yamaha Clubs .. the 15s are great if you aren't going to use a sub, but just don't sound as clean as the 12" versions (maybe it's just me). I'm willing to lose a little low end when I don't use subs to get: smaller, lighter, and to me, cleaner sound. I have 15" 3 ways (Yorkville Unitys paired with Unity subs) when I need a lot of sound, just want to start downsizing things as my 51 year old back ain't what it used to be. Will probably look at smaller subs as well in the future ( I really like the Danley TH-Minis if I can afford them).

I am trying to find someplace around here where I can hear the EVs (heard some nice things). I don't know if anyone in CT carries FBT, but thanks for the recommendation and I'll try to find a pair.

I know you are concentrating on Powered but as far as a natural sound for vocals and not being obtrusive I would highly recommend the Bose 802s as they are line arrays. I have used them a few times without Subs but in a two way electronic crossover configuration used as Hi/Mids, they really shine because they don't have the encumbrance of onboard filters. It is best when used with their controller though (Which is actually a two way crossover). Just a thought. Look at my latest gig report pics and you will see what a nice small outline they have.

Canute how do you claim the 802's as line array? Can I lay claim to that with my Dynacords?

The newest, Bose 802 III, are considered an 'Articulated Array'.

The dispersion pattern is DEFINITELY different to your Dynacords thats for sure. That has nothing to do with power, just coverage.

Take a look at the new FBT EVOMaxX speakers. They make a 12" that only weighs in at a little over 28 pounds. I just bought a pair of the 12's and I also own the QSC K12's. In my opinion, and while I really like the QSC speakers, the FBT's do have better overall sound quality. Just as good low end and much cleaner sound when cranked!
I highly recommend them to you and if you are looking for a retailer, I bought mine from Erik at RMC audio. Great guy to do business with.

I have to agree with the FBT choice as I own four of their powered MaxX 4a tops and I love them. Here is a paid shown with a pair of RCF subs at a college dance I just did this past weekend.
