it really depends as to how Egyptian the guy is and the number of Egyptian by blood or visiting from Egypt that will be present. This is the first most important part in the process and then regional choices along with what genre of Egyptian music will fit for this group best. They may want standard old favorites which are a must at weddings in Egypt or they may only want Egyptian Middle East Club Beats are played often which isnt all Egyptian artists. You need to let them know you could come up with a whole night of Egyptian music that might not be the selections they want. Dont always try to sound as though your the expert on everything. IF you have an interest do some google searching on Egyptian music listen to some of it find the most popular wedding celebration music perhaps their most popular 2011 and back along with some Wedding tradition to immerse yourself a bit going in and for sure prior to the event. I do this religiously for any ethnic challeng I have.

I did a smidge of reading up on it today. Tradition apparently calls for a very elaborate, and lengthy grand entrance and it sounds like you'd really have to have live players that parade with the wedding party, all around the venue. I think you're right. I'll probably just tap them enough to know that I've done diligence then probe him on how much ethnic he envisions the event. Pulling a mix of American and Egyptian should be a challenge, especially if his side is muslim. I'm guessing no "Bombs over Baghdad".....

Your best and probably safest bet is to get the lowdown from the B&G themselves. Like any wedding they'll have their own preferences. Preferences don't necessarily jibe with traditions in one's country of origin.

Egypt isn't a monotheic Muslim nation; Coptic Christians make up a portion of the culture. :)

Had a really good meeting with the B&G. He's from Egypt directly and Coptic Christian family (no muslims). Her side is Catholic and there most certainly will be an open bar. When we discussed the GE, I went thru the typical thing we do and then asked him if he'd prefer to do a traditional Egyptian entry. The guy's eyes just lit up and his fiance chimed in "I've never heard of that." He said it normally would require live drummers and some kind of wind instrument but then I suggested we could place wireless speakers outside the ballroom and play the music from a track. Have to say that's the first time I've ever seen a groom get that excited. Guess a little pre-meeting google pays off sometimes.

Ahh Rick keep on eating those smarter pills you will succeed yet! I have used google for just this sort of thing now since mid 90's it pays to be educated.
