Lil issue i had was VDJ wouldn't load a video, or enable the video window to work... kept getting a pop up "video driver error"

un ticking the hardware acceleration in config menu has allowed them to work now.... what's up with that? is there another underlying problem i'm unaware of??

All my computers run 64 bit flavors of win 7 including my gigging computers and I have yet to have any video problems. Just make shure your video drivers are up to date.

Yes, I have been running VDJ since version 3 now using 7.0.5b

Another 7.05b Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. No problem with video. Check for the latest driver for your card, however sometimes you may need a prior version of the driver not the latest.

VDJ is a pretty lady, but like most, she's high maintenance. I have been running it for some dance gigs where I beat mix over the years and it had never been 100% stable, EVER! I had tracked many problems down to audio settings and drivers but some of the problems turned out to be video related issues. Now when I use it I only run native mask resolutions and disable any screen stretch to fit options. I greatly prefer to to run Rockit which has always been stable. But in the instances where I feel like I should be beatmixing, VDJ makes life easier, but it is the most unreliable software I have ever paid for and I feel like a sucker for using it.

I wouldn't call it unstable on my part Scott...i've been using it for few years now..And once i get it set up it's fine. but that was all on 32 bit machines.

Scott,
I've been running it on 64 Bit machines once it was available. While I don't do parties multiple times a week, week after week. I do update my music and have them running video for fun when I'm doing other stuff in the studio. Haven't crashed it once and no glitches or error in video or audio. So to me it has been rock solid ever since I got into DJ software.

Sheesh! Maybe it's me. Their latest code has glitched on me across 4 different laptops, 2 different USB sound cards, 32-bit XP, 32-bit Win7 and 64-bit Win7. I always get a hint of audio glitching, a "zzzt" sound at a low level which to me seems like a digital artifact from either a buffer hitting its limit or a basic math error in their stream conversion to allow for the pitchless beat warping. Granted it's barely audible and the audience never notices but I hear it. It is usally random and short lived, but sometimes it gets noticably loud and then audio drops out completely or I get an app error. I've read about many people getting this across a variety of systems and configuraitons, some of which are traced to settings, some to drivers (audio & video), some to rogue services eating processor cycles, etcetera, but others like me have no specific cause or cure. I run a stripped system with no network, anti-virus and my latency numbers are very low and stable. The oddest thing is that the machine which does it least has the worst latency scores. I have heard it in bars and at events I have attended and it always traces back VDJ. I think it's inherent in their current design. I wish they had settings to disable all the options that I don't need or want, but they seem to be on a mission to be everything to everyone and seem to have lost control of stability of the their software. But hey, that's why I have Rockit!

VDJ 7.0.5b kept telling me that it couldn't locate a .dll file the other night - dedx9_37.dll - as it result, it wasn't able to do anything involving video. Fortunately, my backup laptop still had 7.0.2 installed and did the job just fine.

This week I'm doing some troubleshooting, but I can't get VDJ to throw me that dll error again. Grrrrr.

Have you done any Windows update to your computer?

That looks like a DirectX dll file.
You can get it by installing DirectX from Microsoft. Google it, should come up right away.

I am in the same boat as most of the guys here... Win7 x64, no problems with VDJ 7 ever. Ever ever ever. Now VDJ 6, 5, 4.... You couldn't pay me to run those professionally. I would have loved to do video, but it just was too buggy, and so I had to stick with Serato since I needed something that "just worked". Now with 7.0.5b I have the best of both worlds... all the customization and extended capabilities along with the rock-solid stability.

Brian... I am guessing that you have bad drivers, your card isn't up to snuff, or you don't have directx installed. Are you also sure you have all the codecs you can get your hands on? (K-Lite, CCCP, etc).

I did contract IT Tech work in a previous life.. if it comes down to it you could always make the 1:45 trip down here and I will fix it if it needs fixin ;)

Is there any way you can roll back the machine setup to a date when everything was working properly?

Thats your problem right there. Quadro (or Quattro, I forget) cards can NOT have hardware acceleration on, and I have no idea why. This EXACT same thing happened to a guy on the VDJ boards, and we never could solve his problem. Since you have the same problem, I can say it would be that brand of card.

Now that I know more about it, I can guess as to why. That line of cards was made for 3D applications such as Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). I believe you NEED to be able to run DirectX 9.0c to run VDJ, and I don't think that the Quadro line can run DirectX.

You said that this is in a desktop? Or a laptop. If it's in a desktop, easy fix. Get a $50-$100 graphics card and you are good (spend more if you want better performance... a low end card like that will still need to use some CPU functions). All you need is any current gaming card from nVidia or AMD (formerly ATI). Make sure it goes past the recommended specs for video (and totally surpasses the minimums). Video mixing on VDJ is one of the coolest things I have ever done while DJing, but it adds a whole new dynamic into it for guys like me who beatmix 99% of the time. I have to mix both songs AND watch the video fader at the same time. It just took some getting used to, but now I can mix videos as easily as songs, especially with help from my keyboard midi shortcuts :)

Like I said, if you need help hardware-wise, you can always hop on down here. I would be happy to install a video card for you, or more ram, or another hard drive, or whatever.

I wasn't sure what the card was all about, as i got it for free. I run nvidia GT series in my other machines 9800's and they all work fine.
I have VDJ working fine, just that videos will not play as long as the hardware acceleration box is checked...all my other cards use it, so i thought it was odd.

I can install a new card myself....and i did restore the machine back to before i added the bad driver. Typing this on it right now

Yeah switch out the card if you plan to use video on there. The quadro cards aren't meant for that, so even if you somehow got HA to work, the GPU probably wouldn't even lighten the load much, and everything would still be run by the cpu to render the video output.
