Question: For a wireless mic that is rack mounted on the top slanted rack, (at the highest point) will having the antennas inside in the case, with the back cover on (Odyssey wood/black carpet case)...does this obstruct the mic signal to any great degree?
 
Should not, my receiver is in the middle of a tall rackmout case and I can get 200 to 400 feet from my mics. What wireless system do you have?

The quality of the gear (transmitter & receiver) will have substantially more impact on the signal than your wood and carpet rack ever could.

Depends on the frequency it's transmitting/receiving on.

General rule of thumb, the lower the frequency, the better ability to get around obstacles. The higher the frequency, you need better line of site.

Good example: My house has 2 feet thick brick walls on the outside, and 2x 2 feet thick brick walls internally (it's divided into three sections). I have to use low frequency wireless phones, and make sure the doors are open between those walls, in order to take my phone from one section to another. If the doors are closed, the phone will drop (my mics too).

If yer within site of your box, you probably shouldn't have too many issues, although I would have the antennas exposed, and not behind wood...

EV RE-2 wireless system.

On my old DJ case, the mic receiver was mounted in the front (facing me...about crotch level) with the antennas in front (w/front antenna kit) facing me. During a couple different ceremonies I had a couple minor drop outs & decided I needed to get the receiver/antennas mounted higher/or mount it where the antennas weren't being obstructed by all the rack mounted gear.

I have the front mount kit for the antennas, but the top lid on my case won't secure tight with the antennas attached, & I don't want to be continiously screwing/unscrewing the antennas before/after each gig, so I mounted the antennas on the backside of the receiver (the antennas are now facing down) now the only obstruction would be the back door panel (wood/carpet) on my case.

If this does present a problem, I just will remove the back door panel on my case during ceremonies.
But I was wondering if the rear wood/carpet panel door is anything to worry about or not.

I have two of those same mics that I bought from Ben. It should not be a problem. What rack are you using? Installing them on the top should take less than a minute to remove/replace the antennae, whats so hard about that?
 
Here's a bit of semi-useful stuff:

I actually place my wireless mics on top of my rack- but then a place a magnetic shield with top and back closed, and two sides screened and front open above them. This can help block UHF interference from anywhere but the front.

I've got news for ya! Its designed to be screwed and unscrewed! I have my Dual mounted on the front too, sometimes I forget to unscrew them but my case front cover does not touch it anyway. I prefer to unscrew them and put them in a special acrylic tube with a cap.

You should be just fine. One thing to do if you can is to put each of the antennas at an opposing 45 degree angle (so they are perpendicular to each other). The pattern of a dipole is like a donut, not a sphere, so that will give you better reception by arranging them like that.

If I decided to use the antennas on top, would it eventually over a period of time weaken/cause problems by screwing/unscrewing the anntennas on & off before/after every gig?

Eventually, yes... but a lot of things happen over time... Pangea comes to mind. It would be a great deal of time, and the connectors and antennas are all replaceable parts.

Thanks I think I'll give it a try for those events where distance is involved.
 
Yeah... all the continents are believed to have been part of a singular large land mass at one time. Over time (a great deal of time) they spread out to their current positions. They are still moving and reshaping due to subducation. It was my obscure reference for the day. LOL.
 
My case has two units side by side (SKB 84DJ). On the front, far left and far right I mount two rubber antennas. Then, I used a 2nd cable for each and drilled a small hole on the top right and left. The other two go there. I might move them just above the handle part.

Works for me.

Note: The 6" wire based are not meant to be mounted away from the rcvr.
 
Ed is correct, I forgot to mention that... the 1/4 dipoles that come with the unit need to be grounded. If you want to mount them in a non-grounded configuration you'll want a Flexible Ground antenna. EV has some 1/2 wave FAs that work perfect for that.
