Just took delivery of a pair of Hercules SS700B crank up speaker stands today to replace the pair of Ultimate stands that didn't even make it a whole year. I am not impressed at all with the short time they lasted and I take good care of my stuff. :trimad: In fact I have some old beaten up stands from Parts Express that I've had used for over 5 years that are still functioning.

Ordered these Hercules stands, along with a couple 50' speakon to speakon 12 ga cables and a roll of gaffer tape on Sunday night from Musicians Friend and everything was on my doorstep this afternoon. :tribiggrin: We took the "free shipping" and I figured it would be Friday before we would see the order, boy was I surprised... Yeah!

First impression of the stands.... Very nice and sturdy, although I'm not too hep about the "yellow" collar where the legs connect but I have plans for hiding that... :)

This should help a bit with setup (and the wear and tear on my back), so I don't have to try to lift my speakers up over my head when utilizing a stand.

A very pleasant shopping experience. Click, click, enter, enter and I was done!
 
I also had problems with ultimate stands. The tightening part broke on 3 of them. Using hose clamps to keep them in place. I had some Gem Sound stands from 10 years ago that lasted 8 years and were still good when I replaced them with the ultimate.

Now unless I need to use my regular speakers again, I am done with stands for speakers. Can't wait to use my no stand Bose speakers at an event.
 
I hear ya Karl. I'm not impressed with Ultimate stands that I bought, but the carrying bag is quite nice...:tribiggrin::triwink:

I'll be waiting for your first "report" of your new "Bose"... :thumbsup:
 
I use the Ultimate Telelocks. No problems. I've used them for years. The pair before these were the "hold 'em up and tighten' 'em" kind and I've had those break.

I backed over mine with my mini van by accident, And am still using them to this day...Love them

Karl, whenever you can, if you can, put those Bose towers on stages or risers. Since they were designed for musicians, it is customary to see them on stages far back from people's bodies. The radiators have speakers in them and thus if blocked by people, would not transmit sound to the back of the room as well. This is why speaker stands are popular so that music can be projected overhead.



I have two Bose Stands (Yes, I did say that) that I have been using since the early 80s that are still like brand new. They are as sturdy as the day I bought them. They are Silver/Aluminum in color and tend to blend in better than the black ones.
I am going to look into those crank stands though for my other speakers. The diameter of the Bose Stands are larger than the regular ones on the market now. So the Bose 802s do not fit on the regular speaker stands.
 
Given the fact that I own the dual setup. I would say raising them generally should not be an issue. The only times I have ever had problems was a couple huge rooms and over 450 people trying to dance in front of my setup. For most events up to 200 I would not think you would even have to worry about a thing. When doing and event for over 300 people I might bring a little more fire power. But for me thats about it, no problemo.
 
Researching on the bose forums, a lot of people talk about raising the L1s. Others so it is not needed. Thinking of all the different venues I play at, I am not too worried about most when it comes to the guests dancing right in front of the stick. But if I do run into that, I am thinking of some ideas to fix that problem.
 
Utilized the Hercules crank stands for the first time last night and was extremely pleased. :) It felt very nice not to have to lift a speaker up over my head and my back is thanking me today. :)

What took me so damn long to buy these? :dontknow:

Next step is to replace the larger tripod stand that I have my Weidarks on to either another Hercules stand or something very similar. :tricool:
 
The 700b is actually their lighting stand which goes 11 1/2 feet high. Did you buy those or their speaker stands? If I needed new lighting trees, I would buy those for sure. I own two Ultimate Telelock light stands and four Telelock speaker stands and they all work great. One of the clutches slips now after years of heavy use but I think they have parts available to fix that.

I bought 2 of the SS700B which is the speaker stand. I'm looking at the LS700B at this time for a lighting stand to replace a very old one that I bought from Musicians Friend about 6 years ago.
 
Ordered one of the LS700B lighting stands last night and should have it on my doorstep by no later than Friday. :)
