I was a radio DJ as well as did Disco's over 35 years ago, I also was a lead singer in a as well agented and had 25 bands that I booked, then I went into a whole different industry and have been there since, some buy convertibles, some get hair transplants and I want to get back to music. I would like to DJ at weddings and private parties, I have a descent personality and can a crowd going as well as make sure guests are extremely happy, so some questions.
1. I bought 4 16 woofer PA speakers, as well as a yamaha 16 channel 1000 watt mixer, a few microphones, tons of music, on cd as well as a 2TB harddrive to put the cd's in mp3 format. I never bought junk and want to make sure any gig I do I am professional and have the equipment I need. so what is left?
2. I see you people talk about mp3 mixers, how does this work, I was planning on buying a double deck cd/mp3 player, not used to mixing just using a laptop, I have been using Media player.
3. Trying to get ready for my first gig after such a long time and boy have things changed, our local bridal show is in January, they want $600 per table, there are only 2 other DJ's that will be there and they have been doing it for quite sometime, I was planning on going and handing out brochures of what I can do, I don't want to cut these DJ's as they do this for a living, however my price will be less than theirs as they can warrant higher prices, what is the proper protocall here, don't want to be the new guy on the block cutting prices but until I can do a dozen or so and guarantee I can give equal value, I just want to have fun and do it right and not take anything from anyone that puts food on the table doing it.
4. Is a Bridal show worth it? what other way could I get a few gigs going.
Spent quite a bit of money so far, don't mind spending more if it is neccessary, but feel I have everything right now to do a wedding or 2.
you guys all seem very good at what you do, and I have been reading your posts for over a month now, some stuff I understand but some is all new to me.
