Hey guys,
I'm Trenton. I'm 16 and have been listening to Dubstep and some techno/hardstyle etc. for some time now. I've recently been really into and have been researching ways to get DJing becoming a good hobby. So far I've heard it's a GREAT hobby and I really like what I've been hearing. It looks like a lot of fun. Question is - I've never done anything with DJing nor do I know the names of stuff so this might be hard but... What should I get to start getting DJing as a hobby? I've seen starter kits. Is that what I need? If that is I would like one that decently cheap, not completely worthless cheap, but cheap enough to be a starter for a first timer. I have roughly around 100-300 dollars that I'm willing to spend. I would really like to get into this hobby. What's the best brands but are cheap enough to fit my cost limit? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Any good ways to learn how to DJ too?
Thanks for your time :)
Kid Cali.

$100 to $300 is not much. All I can say is try to stay away from Ion, Gemini, Pyle Pro, Kustom, GemPro. Behringer has come a long way, and though I still don't use any of their gear for gigs I have been hearing good things about their newer speakers.

Are you going the computer & controler route, vinyl, CDJs, or what?

If going the controler route check out some of the ReLoop and Hercules products.

I'm 40 and have been listening to Dubstep too. I've always been a techno freak, and this just adds to it! I'm not super knowledgeable on gear brands, save for what I read on this board. I know what I use and I know I like it (Stanton, Mackie, B52) but it's certainly not low cost. (not too pricey either) Best of luck on your new hobby!

Like I said I'm completely new to DJing so I don't know what " Computer & controler route, vinyl, or CDJs" are.. Sorry :p Haven't been researching too much so that's why I came here looking for some advice. Thanks for the feedback. So you're saying I should look into Behringer?

What do you think is a good price for a good reliable starter kit? Because honestly I don't even know if I'll be that into it, so I don't want to spend that much money on it and then just lose intrest into it, ya know?

I own the Hercules RMX and I am happy with it. One thing with the Steel, you will also need a sound card if and when you decide to hook your system to speakers for a gig. The RMX has a built in sound card. Some argue that geting a Steel and a external sound card is better then using an RMX with a built in card and I AGREE. You would be very happy with the steel as a beginer and you could always sell it to upgrade in the future. ALSO keep in mind if going with VDJ that Hercules makes a 4 Deck Version to support the new 4 deck skins on Virtual DJ.

It as all you will need to start. It will control your software and has headphone / mic jacks.

That sounds good. How much are the sound cards and where can I get them? I wouldn't need one until I am ready to DJ for an audience though right? And another thing I wanted to know about it is does the Steel have a good sound system? It looks like it does. I'm just making sure I'm spending my money on something that has good quality. It sounds like a really good deal, but I will take all suggestions from others. This Hercules Steel looks pretty good for 200 bucks though. ;D
