lcd or pc moniters

You can use any display as long as the karaoke machine/player can hook up to it.

I assume, that when you say desktop monitor, you mean a CRT...

Why would you even want to carry one around?

I sent 3 to the dump last year (in perfect working order), and have an almost brand new one queued for the dump this spring. Too heavy and bulky to keep around, or move...

Virtual DJ is terrible for karaoke. It has no functions needed for a karaoke show. No rotation management, on screen advertising, and it just does not work very well.

I suggest picking up something like karma it's only $100 and will make your life so much easier.

A small display is cool but I suggest you have ways to connect to the TV's in the bar you will be hosting so that other people in the place and sing along with the words. You will need an HDMI splitter or a VGA converter. You can take the VGA pass though to your onstage monitor and the composite video out to the TVs in the bar.

I love using old 13" TVs and CRT monitors !

You can find them at yard sales for $5. Throw them in a stand mountable road case and they look fully professional.

All about lowering the risk and overhead........

now i need a tripod stand..which one should i get?

Audio 200 makes stand that's well priced and built to last forever. Adustable sides make it work for anything.

The monitor will work, but this is one area where I have gone non-Luddite. about 3 LCDs will fit in the space of one CRT. They weigh close to nothing ( the first time I bought one and picked it up, I thought the box was empty). Lower power draw too.

The LCD fits on the same Audio 2000 stand as my old CRT.

You can pick up a 15" LCD from Walgreens for around $100- I think the brand is Venturer. This particuler brand has all the controls on the unit, as well as the remote- one less worry.

I keep mine in an a bag, and sling it over my shoulder while I'm carring other things- one less trip...

karma (shudders).........certainly didn't make MY life any easier until I deleted off my system.

Ummm why???? It's probably hands down the easiest to use nearly one screen karaoke specific software on the market.... oh and please tell me you're not using something {gulp} Winamp based....

Trust me when I say this... I've litterally tried them all....

I can't stand win(crap)amp constant crash issues nothing but a pain and the sound engine sucks....

I've used:
Roxbox
Sack o nuts
Sax & Dotti
Swift Elite
PCDJ FX Karaoke Plugin
Compuhost

and too many others to list....

Karma has been hands down the easiest to use and to teach how to use.
