Its time to redo some of my older speakers. They have the Dura-coat finish on them now. I see some on the board use bed liner paint, is this what you would recommend?????

How thick is that stuff? I have 4 subs that need some touch-ups. Will I need more than 1 gal? Is it the same as truck bed liner spray?

I am sure that your subs are not as big as mine. 24x24x42 not counting inside areas. I did four of them. These are scoops. I still have about half a gallon left of paint.

I am also a fan of Duratex. I have used the roller grade on more than 20 speaker cabinets. With some minor touchups to cover dings from mis handling, this stuff is still going strong after 4 years of road wear.

There is a spray grade...and if I had it to do again, I would setup a spray booth and go that route.

Duratex does not like to be applied <60F. It will crackle....bad. Keep the daytime temps >75F and you will have no problems. It does need 24 hours to dry for light use, and a week or more to fully cure. It is more than worth the time.

I love the Duratex stuff...but only 1 drawback to be aware of... after it's put on a cabinet... it is slightly slippery by nature. So if you are doing a cab that is going to have something packed on top of it... be prepared.

Personally, we use it on all our speakers...we put a double coat on the entire cab before we cover them with ozite.... prevents knicks from showing through to the wood. I use it for a ton of other stuff also... racks, etc... works well.

What is Ozite?

I thought Duratex was a single step application type of paint (ie no top coat needed)

Okay one thing that myself and my good friend Maestro have discussed. With this great Duratex coating all speakers and consoles etc should be fitted with proper corners which honestly will protect in tough situations beyond the coating.

I use the bedliner spray, since my JBL's had that "plastic" textured covering.
they look brand new when you're done!

I used two cans at $10 each!
very reasonable
