LEVEL 42 - STARCHILD
I simply love the bass playing of this group.

Mark King from Level 42 is amazing on bass!

I'm glad you said bassline, as opposed to bass guitar. Below is a definite favorite of mine, but the bassline is all keyboard, thanks to the crazed genius of Bernie Worrell:

My favorites are all from the 80s:

1.) "Voices Carry" by 'Til Tuesday. Once you get to the bridge, it changes up and becomes more melodic through the final choruses. Aimee Mann's vocals (and video performance) sold the song, but her bass playing on this was amazing.

2.) "One Night In Bangkok" by Murray Head. Sequenced and synthesized, it's straightforward during the verses but takes some interesting twists and turns during the choruses.

Honorable Mention: Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up".

One of mine is very basic, hardly more than a few notes on bass guitar, but its so smooth and melodic.... almost trance like

Castle Walls by Styx
