Friday afternoon we're tooling down the highway, bopping along a little over 75 mph heading towards Bloomington IL (about 80 miles from where we live).

We were planning on rolling into Bloomington around 4 pm so we could attend the B&G rehearsal, since we were doing the ceremony music along with pics and music for the reception.

We're about 12 miles from our destination and suddenly van starts to slow a bit, the handling is getting a tad bit rough....then Coreen looks in the passenger side rear view mirror and tells me...look there's smoke coming from the trailer! :trisad:

Of course I deaccelerated and pulled off to the side of the road and you guessed it....blew that trailer tire up real good!

Needless to say we didn't make it in time for the rehearsal, but the good news is that we now have a new pair of heavy duty trailer tires on that baby! :)
 
Did you get a spare and jack installed as well? If not, you better.

When we purchased the new trailer, I kept procrastinating on getting the spare and jack. That was, until we had a major flat on the way home from a gig about 2 hours north. I had to call a buddy who works at a tire shop to get a spare and bring it up. Now, I have a spare & Jack (which my truck jack also works as well) and can be back on the road in about 15 minutes if I do have a flat.
 
That's our next step.... I had to laugh as the guy said....just unhook the trailer and bring the rim and blown tire in.....Ummmm, no we have thousands of dollars of DJ and Camera gear in this trailer and it's not being left unattended by the roadside....You come to us... :D

Logistically, I'm pondering where I could stash the spare as we fill up our trailer nearly to the brim.....Time to put on the "thinking cap." :triwink:
 
get one of them fancy covered side mounts or put it on the back door like they do PAthfinders and SUVs etc.

Yeah, you have one of those big boy trailers that you can actually stand up in....mine, I remove part of my scalp every few months or so when I forget to duck! :p (And you thought I was going bald, when actually I'm just scraping the hair off the top of my head along with the scalp!) :sqwink:
 
Wherever you decide to stow the spare, keep two things in mind:

Inside (or underneath) the trailer where it's safe from the weather and potential theft/vandalism.

Where it can be easily accessed when the trailer is fully loaded. :)
 
And while you're at it spend the $10 for a tire plug kit. If the tire's not completely gone - you can plug it and inflate with a mini cigarette compressor until you can safely evaluate the situation and get to help or your gig.
 
I follow Murphy's law and have 2 spare tires and a floor jack. One spare is mounted to the inside wall and the second is in the bed of the truck.

You just never know.
 
That's why I post my screwups and or mishaps, so I can get feedback, suggestions, comments and general ribbing. I'm not too old to learn..:tribiggrin::tritongue:

Ouch! :sqwink: Actually we'll still make a very nice profit, due to the photographs taken. :) (Bless my wife.... :) )

Don't forget that those tires are a business deduction... :D

Kirby, I have a tiny little 4X6 and had the same problem. Went to Lowes and picked up a spare tire mount and bolted the spare to the tongue, horizontally. Have a scissor jack and lug wrench in the car trunk. I wouldn't dream of pulling a trailer without a spare handy.

We've tempted fate for over 3.5 years and this was the first "mishap" so we've been very lucky so far. We are taking steps to "remedy" any future situations like this.......

I'm figuring that those tires were close to 4.5 years old and we've put some miles on them in the last 3.5 years and they've carried a lot of weight during that time..... :) It was bound to happen..

(I thought Rob had powdered donutz?):trirolleyes:

Kirby, if you had a sophisticated piece of equipment like me, you wouldn't have that problem!!!

After years of extremely souped up cars, you'd be amazed at the amount of spare parts I carry in the different trunks :D:D:D:D:D:D And get a floor jack. I have one in every car with custom mounting points. Take it out put it under the front or rear suspension 3 or 4 pumps and everything is up in the air (Don't get excited Rob :D:D:D:D)
