OK, I was invited to a wedding for my wife's God son. I actually like the guy. He's a good guy, but not like most people. He's a 2010 version of a hippie. I'm only going to keep the peace. I have no desire to be at this wedding.

1. I have to drive 300 miles to get there.

2. The hosts of the wedding are paying for 1 night of lodging at a bed and breakfast - or so I was informed.

3. It is in the middle of nowhere.

4. No meat will be served at the reception.

5. There will be an acoustic band for music - to save the planet's energy, I guess.

6. The reception is expected to be in a barn, where guests will use cotton covered bales of hay as seats.

7. There will be a bonfire at the reception where we are all invited to make "S'mores".... :triconfused:

The 'bachelor party" will be held the morning of the wedding. It is two hours of fishing at a nearby river... I won't be there, most likely, as we would probably be driving down that morning. The nephew will eat fish, but no other meat, and the wife is vegan.

EDIT.... they chose to have the wedding on the WV / Kentuck border, though they actually live in Baltimore.... most people going live near Philly of Baltimore.

Nope :)

the drive no matter what the end results would be the only thing I likely wouldnt enjoy. Everything else sounds great and I would consider driving the night before to gain the Bach party fishing hole event. Sounds like it would be a nice change from the typical. Not sure how long I could sit on a bale of hay even covered likely affect my arthritic back before to many hours so would likely be standing alot.

Sounds like it could be a good time.

That's a "hell no" for me.

One of my weddings was vegan this season and people were not happy about it. More than half the food was thrown away. Is that saving the planet?

It puts friends and family in an awkward position by pushing a lifestyle on them. Respect is a two way street.

I wouldn't mind the drive IF they actually lived there... They live near Baltimore, but have chosen to have the wedding on the West Virginia / Kentucky state lines.... Baltimore is just 90 miles away from most guests.

Papa pretend it is where they live you will enjoy the day much better. What made them choose the location? Other family members living there?

Hank your just madd cause your folks made you eat all your veggies. Hey they could have opted for the Indian style Veggie plates. LOL.

if the fish was "biting" i MAY just have to miss the wedding:trirolleyes:

Nope, no family members. From what I have been told the area where the party is is known to be very "communal", and that is right up the bride and groom's alley... I don't think it is up anybody else's alley, though. Certainly nobody that I know who will be attending.

Does the breakfast at the B&B serve meat?

Seriously, it really depends on what's on the menu.

If we're talking no meat, but there'd be fish, pasta, cheese, etc., I wouldn't mind it.

Are we talking vegan? Nothing but rabbit food? Leave me out of it!

On a side note, the hay bales and smores makes the party sound fun, and even hints that it's a dress-down type of function.

Believe it or not, the type of entertainment is irrelevant to me, just as long as they are good at what they are doing.

Okay so if the God son means enough to your wife then she should be there ready and willing to accept whatever is offered. You arent the God mother so you have to choose to love it with your wife or kindly bow out. I suspect if the ones having the event want things a certain way it is their day and I have a choice whether or not to go enjoy it their way, do it for the wife, or stay home.

Do they have any goats by chance...? I would need a partner to dance with... :sqlaugh:
Yeah, they're not serving meat, but a goat for your 'dance' partner? :werr: No problem.

Sounds like my kind of party (sans the driving part) :)

Yeah right Rick - I know why you want goats there!!!:tritongue:

Anyway, I think it sounds like fun and you can always use the bale of hay to stoke the bonfire at the end of the night!!

How bout a Kougar

Would that suffice?:triwink:
