Hello,

Being back to the DJ scene after 20 years, I have lost my wedding program. Fellow DJ's, if you know of a website that basically has a breakdown of the events that a DJ must cover during a wedding, it would be greatly appreciated. This would include intro of the wedding party, cake cutting, etc.

If you have something you could email, that would be great as well.

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,
Welcome back! You can find the info that you are seeking on almost any Wedding Planning Site. Remember too that some Clients have their way of doing things and that is the unique program that you must follow for that particular client.

And be aware of regional differences. Oh, wait...you're in Jersey...hell, you're right down the road...whatcha need bro?

Hello

How are you,

Well brother, as I mentioned I have been out of the buiz for a few years. Now just interested in doing it P/T. I am a Detective full-time in law enforcement.

Now, the last time I did a wedding it was with 2 Technique 1200 turntables, mixer and amp. A lot has changed. I just purchased a laptop, 2 Pyle Pro speakers with stands, Wireless Mic, Trial Version of Virtual DJ and lighting. I have no dam clue who to use for download on music. Itunes is too dam expensive. ANy help bro on the aforementioned info?

Thanks,

Kenny B

Hi Kenny.. Welcome to the board. I am located here in Staten Island and I would be happy to help you get back up on your DJ feet.

I came from the school of two tables, mixer, amp and a mic also. You are not alone. As for music, a company like Prime Cuts, or Promo Only might be the best way to keep your library current. Itunes is another service that I use also. You may think they are expensive but .99 for a single is much cheaper than the 5.99 we use to pay in the 80's and 90's.

As for gear you are on the right track with the laptop method because most of the newcomers to the biz are digital. Using software like Rockit, VDJ, PCDJ or Serato will depend on your comfort level. Each software has it's own fan base, so I will let you seek the opinions from that camp. The Pyle speakers will come in handy for home use while you practice, but I would not build too much trust into them for the road. You can always find a nice set of used powered speakers in the NJ market for your mobile work.

Good luck man! I will be more than happy to assist any way that I can.

Welcome Back. Be sure to catch some of the up coming DJ shows, like Mobile Beat in Vegas.

Can you teach us how to be a detective or recommend some good sites, DVD's, etc.

Thanks!

Hello,

I am from the Atlantic City area. The problem for me is going to be able to stay up on what is hot now a days. I know what is hot in the 80's and 90's. What about 2009-2010? I will be doing jobs mostly for the law enforcement crew in my area. FOP and PBA parties. A few weddings here and there. I could really use a detailed song list to get me started for the parties. As for the weddings, as most people mentioned, I could check out a DJ website for that info. ANy info you could pass my way brother would be grealt appreciated. My personal email is [email protected].

How to be a Detective......

Hey,

I will help anyone the best way I can. If you want to be a Detective, I can give you advice. I spent 10 years as a Sheriffs Officer here in Burlington County, NJ. The last 2 years have been with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. The money is better with the Pros Office. Anything you need, give me a hollar.

Hey Fellow Lawman.
We are actually in the same boat. I just got back into the DJ Arena last October after about 10 years off. Like you, the last wedding I did was with vinyl. I have purchased a Mac Book Pro, Virtual DJ, a Bose L-1 system, Denon 2500, and Denon x500 mixer and a few hard drives for back up. I sold a EV setup and other gear I had left over to fund the new gear. I would recommend a service also, I have been getting Prime Cuts Weekly MP3, and love it. It builds up your library quickly. I also got last years too. Check out the Mobile Beat DJI Top 200. The new list just came out and is very helpful as most of the songs on there can easily do a majority of an event. Good luck and reach out if you have any questions. Stay Safe Brother.

Prime Cuts Weekly MP3

Mike,

Is this service going to provide me with music CD's? Full of music? I would love to be able to stick in a CD full of dinner music for a wedding, or top40 in a party and just concentrate on the lights and Mic., etc.

Thanks,

Kenny B

Here is the equiptment I recently purchased. Computer, Numark AO/IO Device, 2 Pyle Pro Speakers (w/amps) with stands, Sure Wireless Mic, Headphones, Virtual DJ Program. I have also purchase several lights along with a fog machine. On the audio side, what am I missing or what else should I get to make the job easier and more professional.

Thanks again guys and gals,

Kenny B

Any chance of being able to return the pyle pro's? Most people have found that these products will not hold up well. They certainly will not hold their value. If you cannot afford really good new gear, considered buying really good used gear from a reliable source.

I think you did well with the sure mic and virtual DJ. Don't know much about the numark. I'm assuming that's a mixer with a computer sound card.

I don't see anything you are missing that you'd need for sure.
You won' be able to use the fog machine much. Most places don't let you use it. At least that's the way it is around here.

Regardless, I wish you luck!

This will provide you will CD's full of MP3's. But many of the songs on any one CD will not be ones you'll want to use for dinner or any one particular situation

With Virtual DJ...or any DJ software, you will easily be able to put any number of songs in for the dinner or cocktail hour and only focus on the mic. I have never been able to put top 40 stuff in and just "let it play". A lot of top 40 stuff is dance music. To me, that is when it requires my full concentration to understand what songs are working and what isn't. It's not always what songs you play, but WHEN you play them.

Scott,

I can't return the speakers now. I should of did more research on them. I read good reviews. Wow, that would suck blowing a speaker during a gig. Yikes! Thanks for the reply.
