On some of these forums I have read some people call themselves "high end" DJ's.

What is a "high end" DJ? Is it defined buy how much you charge, the quality of the show, the equipment you use, etc?

Can we define and draw the line between "high end", "medium" and "low end" DJ's?

"high end" - Thinks they are better than the rest of us. Thinks their sh*& don't stink.

"medium" - Relizes that some of their sh*& stinks but still gets worked up about pricing, worth, and all that other nonsense.

"low end" - Bottom feeders :sqlaugh:

"ODJT Members" - Real DJs and KJs that could care less about this high, medium, and low end bull crap.

Friggin' profilers!!!

It can mean anything. It can mean nothing. I get paid a LOT of money to provide a unique and customized show for anyone. That has NO meaning on my personality, how I treat others, etc. It just is business.

Please continue.....

Your friend,

Dave

ps. First part is a joke...JIK

Most of the people I know that use those terms are primarily referring to the budget of the client or a market niche related to the wedding budget, not a talent level.

hard to say...

I am high end and low end....depending on the clients needs and wants.

I can dress up or down.

I have done drunkfests in the barn, and I have done classy ballroom weddings....both high end to me!

I am fair in pricing, but others think I charge WAY too much to just play music (if they havent been to one of my events).....it happens.

I think Rick is the most qualified to tell us what a "high" end DJ is :)

Huh, what did you say -- you got a joint man?... yorofl:

Seriously, I get to talk to lots of DJs every single day, and I still don't know what a high end DJ is... :sqconfused:

As previously mentioned, there are those who think their sh_t doesn't stink (but of course, it does). But there are also many people who I talk to, who are plenty down to Earth folks, but put on a different persona when they walk into a ballroom, and charge $2k plus.

They can go from one extreme to the other in a heartbeat -- I'm not sure if that's a genetic fault, or a good thing...

Then there's Steve (Thunder) :sqerr: :sqeek: :sqlaugh:

I've always considered myself a low end DJ. Not because I consider what I do to be lower quality, or my price is that cheap -- but because of the places I like to work. I prefer titty bars, or any type of bar for that matter. I like peanut shells on the floor, and I like seeing a good fight now and again. Drug deals in the bathroom don't faze me, and the stall banging doesn't bother me :D

While not uncomfortable in a ball room, it's also not my first choice of places to work... :)

I prefer the term "upscale." :D

Guess much depends upon the market a given DJ prefers to work with. For my part I prefer upscale shows ~ fancy weddings and parties in hotsy totsy ballrooms. They pay better and people treat you better.

But there ain't many of them around. So we're just as happy with a VFW wedding or a kegger party in someone's back yard. :)

You are what you think you are. Those who prefer the term "high end"...go for it. Those who prefer the "blue collar" affairs, that's OK too. And if you call youself a "low baller"...well then you had better run and hide 'cause nobody like a "low baller" or "bottom feeder."
