Howdy,

I've been using this for the past year and it is a LIFESAVER and a great teacher.

http://www.livescribe.com/

It's a pen that records both voice and handwriting for anything you need. I use it for sales meetings so I can listen back to my presentation. I use it for planning meetings and it saves me a TON of time because I can download my handwritten notes into a desktop application and then I can use a third party software application to change my handwritten notes into text.

If someone contends that they did ask for something at our meeting, I can go back and listen to the meeting and find out if I was in the wrong or not. It's an amazing piece of technology.

They are reasonably priced and are worth every penny.

Hope this helps your business.

Can you record an entire meeting on a single sound clip? It'd be nice to be able to record the entire thing without the client realizing you were recording.

It is illegal to record someone without their knowing.

Can this be interfaced with Dragon Naturally Speaking (This is the software I use for typing/ voice to text and commands http://www.nuance.com/talk/)?

Howdy,

Don't know if it will interface with Dragon program. I've used mine for over a year now and I still have tons of space left. It really is an amazing thing. I always tell my clients that I'm recording the meeting. They always forget I am.

I've been doing the same thing. And recording someone without their knowing isn't against the law. As long as you don't do anything with it. For example, recording that meeting to transcribe notes later - is perfectly legal - provided you're the only one that has access to the recording. Posting it publicly may be a problem, depending on the specifics.

Recording PHONE conversations on the other hand, has a completely different set of laws.

BTW, I let my clients know, and more oft than not, they're interested in the pen themselves and ask for a demonstration!

Not entirely true. Each state has it's own laws. Here is an example of an exception to what you have stated. http://www.a1-hiddencamera.com/Article_AudioRecordingLaws.html

The 12 states which definitely require all parties to a conversation to consent before it can be recorded are: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. (In California Law, there is an exception – you can Record an Audio Conversation with the consent of only one party if certain criminal activity (kidnapping, extortion, bribery or a violent felony) is involved.

This link also states other times and stipulations but this quote shows that you cannot just record someone without their knowledge everywhere in the USA.

What the rules are, and what actually happens in real life, are sometimes two different things... ;)

Having said that, I have warning stickers on all my doors stating that both audio and video recording are done on the property, both inside buildings and outside. That is to comply with NYS law, as all my cameras both inside and out, record both audio and video.

You are making it known to them. To me, that is well within the laws.

Ok..;let's not forget WHY I posted this. It really is a remarkable tool that will help you keep notes better, transfer them faster and make you more efficient when dealing with clients.

Ofter I'll go home after a meeting, download the notes, translate to text and then email it back to them within 30 minutes. THAT is a competitive advantage.
