After reading Papa Deuce's post, it gave me an idea for a test.

How about if all those who are interested in their SEO placement, list what they think is their most commonly used search term and everyone else respond (with original poster's post in quotes) where you found them on Google, Yahoo and MSN. For example, Papa Deuce wants to know where he shows up using the search term 'Philly DJ'. We then respond by clicking 'respond with quote' and list your findings. Everyone who is interested can post and everyone else can respond with findings. Have I explained this well enough?

Does the yellow page / local listing count?

Uh....no. Let's see how everyone is doing with SEO.

Thanks Rick. The reason I would hope most people don't search for just a 'Memphis DJ', is it usually brings up a bunch of radio jocks. That's usually to broad of a search term. With that being said, I still might try to tweek mine to at least fall on page 1.

Cape Breton DJ or eastern nova scotia DJ is the search term. My URL is www.romardsound.com

EDIT: Google #2 and #1
Yahoo Page 2 #4 and #1
MSN Page 2 #1 and #1

In all cases my Kijji and other ads all rate high

MSN - Page 2, #3

Just for grins, you might want to click on the links that come up ahead of you in a search. I typically use Google and their results are littered with "this domain may be for sale" or "this site is under construction". Obviously those guys know how to optimize (or cheat) to get highest results but they are useless to a search and should not count against your site being listed below them.

I also find it somewhat amazing when people give up their domain name. I have found many DJs who come up high in search results who let their registration lapse. The search displays interesting content in the cached results showing that it was a live site, but when you go to the page it's yet another domain for sale. It might not be a bad idea to start buying up these highly ranked domains for cheap money and simply have them redirect to yours.

I'd like you to search with your own search criteria.

We're located in Chatham, IL, near Springfield, IL in Sangamon County in Central Illinois.

Using 'Springfield, IL Wedding DJs' (which is probably more common than Chatham, IL)

Google - Page 1, #6
Yahoo - Page 4, #6
MSN - Page 3, #8

I'm top and have about 6 of the top 10 places for all manner of search terms and pimp the jobs out :) unless it's way cool and for loads of dosh ;)
