Martin Roboscan812 - Need some quick answer please.

Hello all, I have a chance to buy 2 used Martin Roboscan 812 fixtures in good shape for $150. Does anyone use these or have they ever seen these.

The only have 150w lamps in them. Is 2 of them enough for a gym?

Do they have limited operating time?

Are the lamps outrageous to replace?

Any known glitches with them?

I "Had" a set of four for many years I am now down to two!

When the exciter goes the unit is trash because there is no replacement for them and generally that is what is going to go first (after the bulbs which are expensive but they do last a long time) Sometimes the XY motors will stick when they get older as well.
There is also a good amount of time needed for warm up on the bulb before it gets to full brightness!

But I can honestly say I have had years and years of flawless service from mine and if they are low hour units you can't go wrong for $150 for both, not bad at $150 each!

Without other lights two 812's will not be enough for a gym light show!

I honestly don't know the hours on them. They are on ebay.

I have a mushroom, derby, cosmos, vue, 8 par 38's on controller, 2 70w strobes, and I am shopping for a laser right now to go with them.

Forget the laser without fog it won't do much good and the 5MW and under lasers just aren't much to begin with, anything over that and you have to have premits for!

I have 2 chauvet foggers.

What do you use for a DMX controller for these. I have never used DMX before so they are all greek to me. I see ones with joysticks, without joysticks, usb interfaces, etc.:sqconfused:

What would you recomend.
 
The Martin 812's an be set to sound active with random built in patterns, but they can't be linked together so that the patterns follow each other (no master/slave relationship)

I have 4 of them I bought from Val, I just put a new bulb in one of them to see if they'll be better, but they weren't bright enough to keep up with the 16 LED cans behind them. The new bulb is quite a bit brighter, but I haven't used on a show since replacing it. I found the bulb for 35 bucks shipped (generic one, same color temp and output, but only 750 hours instead of 2000, I can deal with that for the price I guess)
They are heavy, but if you check reviews on the net, it'll be hard to find something more durable and reliable.

Thanks for the info. I will check with my supply house on the lamps. I want to have at least 2 spares.

yea, your getting a good deal. They are good lights, just remember they are old technology. They are heavy. They don't rotate or you can't change the gobos. They don't master/slave.

Check into getting a martin controller maybe with preprogrammed scenes. It seems I've seen them around, but can't recall the model number.
