laser pointer for disco balls

Where can I get good quality, heavy duty, laser pointers? I am DJing a prom this Saturday and I though about setting couple of disco balls on both sides of the gym and periodically throughout the night hitting them with the laser pointers for a quick effect! It needs to be a thick stream that reaches across the room. It could also be used to compliment a small, fog machine...any recommendations???

This is a class IIIb laser:

Lasers in this class may cause damage if the beam enters the eye directly. This generally applies to lasers powered from 5–500 mW. Lasers in this category can cause permanent eye damage with exposures of 1/100th of a second or less depending on the strength of the laser. A diffuse reflection is generally not hazardous but specular reflections can be just as dangerous as direct exposures. Protective eyewear is recommended when direct beam viewing of Class IIIb lasers may occur. Lasers at the high power end of this class may also present a fire hazard and can lightly burn skin.

Shooting them off a mirror ball isn't going to reduce the beam......you could seriously injure anyone......

But then again, wtf do I know?

Ask Randy - he's the engineering expert here. He'd be the one that could tell you how to do it and make it perfectly safe....

Nice idea in theory, but in the name of humanity, please don't attempt this with a laser or any type. It's simply not worth the risk.

Scanners on mirror ball = awesome effect.
Lasers on mirror ball = tremendous potential for injury.
 
And honestly the effect isn't much with a single laser light pointed on a mirror ball, it wasn't much with eight hitting it at once!
