When you are at an event, are people seeing the same guy they would see M - F, 9 - 5?

For me, the answer is NO. Generally speaking I am rather a reserved individual. Unless I feel really comfortable around folks, I'm pretty darn quiet. I don't have many people I call "friends", but then again, I hold that term higher than most, I think.

It's really an effort for me to loosen up when I do events - except for my bubble parties, though even those I am much looser as the season goes on. I did my first one for this year last week, and I felt like my performance was "stiff". I even go so far at adult events have a little sign I made that I keep in sight. It says "Loosen up and have fun"!

Now if I am among friends at an event, I can actually go a little too far, I think....

So how about you? Is your DJ personality the same as you are most of the time?

When I DJed my personality was the same as if I were around a group of people I know well. Friendly, prankster, and generally just cracking jokes. Other than that I'm pretty quiet. Most people who know me will tell you once you get to know me I never shut up. :D

I try to follow a certain level of ethics and business decisions that will not make me look like a fool.

I love to dance for example..but at gigs...I try to hold back on dancing because I am not there to dance. Now if people are coming up making requests and dancing, or people are constantly looking at me behind the booth, I loosen up a lot more.

I really pay attention to my surroundings to determine what the best personality for each event should be. Should I be over the top on the mic, and be poking fun where I can, or should I be more reserved and only speaking when something is needed to be said?

At home...if you get to know me I am both laid back, and I can also be a little high strung at times, again it all depends on what my environment is asking from me.

If I am relaxing, drinking beer(s) at a friends house, and we are chilling with just a few people...I will be quite reserved. If I am at a friends house, and there is a good number of people tearing it up, it gives me room to amp myself up and go with the flow.

I am like a chameleon!

My DJ personality was always the entertainer. When I first started out in the business, a mentor told me, "People come out to get away from their troubles. And they don't really care about your bad day. Nobody will have a good time until you look like you're having a good time." My daily personality isn't that driven, but I still am fearless to a crowd, and very social. But in daily life I allow myself to be sad, and mad. Not often, but never when I am in the DJ suit.

That's a pretty good idea...Although some nights if I got any looser I wouldn't be able to stand lol

I an a naturally shy peson, reserved and laid back, almost socially awkward. I blame that on being a performer for so long It amazes people that know me well how I can perform in front of people. It's all character at a show.

My mentor taught me swagger. In public always keep the head up and shoulders back. Walk and speak with confidence

I agree...I can be sad at home...

but otherwise when I am out and about..if someone asks me how I am doing....

I am always doing great, unless something tragic has happened, and I cannot hide the sadness.

Whenever I go out and about..(in the public eye)...I try to do just as others said, head up, chip up, smile on my face. I try not to be rude to anyone that is performing some sort of service with me, and they are doing a poor job..(such as a waitress.) I do my best to always keep a smile on my face, and I try not to burn any bridges ever.

I have two distinct personalities My show personality turns on the minute I turn up my Mic at the begining of a show or gig, and it turns off the minute I shut down the rig!

mostly the same ... but of late I am quiet trying to get my health fixed more than anything first

then i can bounce a few heads again

GREAT QUESTION!!

Me. The same. One.

Of course, it is a professional situation so professional courtesy and attention are the modus operandi, but other than that hightened awareness, the audio equipment, and the amazing mixing skills on display, not much difference.
