How detailed is your planner?

I form is about 2 1/2 pages, but I have heard of them being less, but also more. One DJ in my area said his is 9 pages long.

I want to get as much detail from the bride and groom as possible, but I like to write a lot of it down during the consultation instead of having them fill out the form.

I don't want the bride and groom to feel overwhelmed with the planner.

What are your thoughts on this?

My planner is about "4 pages" of information. I happen to format it into "12 pages" to make it easier to fill out by hand, and to make it easier to read at the event. Each "double page" has all the information that I need for one part of the overall process....even if that means repeating some information in more than one place in the planner.

Steve, that is one of the best wedding planners I have seen on a website. Great Job. I may do something like that on my site as well. You have given me some good ideas.

It's not the planner size that matters, but what you do with it.

I can take a 3 page planner, add white space, use larger fonts to make it easier to fill in, and now it's 6 or 7 pages. I can take a 20 page planner, and use smaller fonts, and cut it to 10.

Don't obsess over the planner size.... It's a non-issue. And if you try to use it as a selling point, some will just make theirs bigger.

Oh the thoughts running through my head right now..... would make even the saltiest of sailors blush.... :sqerr::sqwink::sqlaugh::rofl:

reception planner is 8 pages at a 11 font. If they want me at the wedding that is another 2 pages.

All my planners are in PDF files for easier emailing

Yes I agree with Mike Reily, That's a good looking planner Steve. I think 3-5 pages is enough, but not too overwhelming.

5 pages here that condenses down to a one-page itinerary for a reception - or a 1.5 page itinerary if doing ceremony as well.

There is no "magic length" or size. Make it as large and only as large as YOU need it to be to deliver a quality, consistent performance every time, and always revise it to change and grow (or decrease) as you change and grow.

I've widdled it down to a single page. I have found that folks here on the laid-back West Coast, don't like long Planners. A one page Planner is the only length I've ever had luck getting back. I also run through everything with my clients and take notes which I re-write as needed but the actual Planner that I insist be completed and returned is just one page.

Last night I put together my planner for a couple that recently hired us. It's about 35 pages. My fiance is putting together another one today for another couple.

But it has no forms for them to fill out.

Let's just say my work process is a little different than most. :)

Like I said, it's not the size of the planner... it's what you do with the information you get.

Wow, I don't know how you guys do it... Out here on the West Coast, procrastination is a way of life. Most folks here like to put everything off until the last minute. I receive emails daily about couples wanting more time to complete my one page Planner; got one today as a matter of fact. This is what it said, "When is the latest we have to give this to you?"

Of course I offer to help, in my office, at a Starbucks or via email but to no avail most of the time. It's frustrating to say the least...

I agree with you all, that the information that you get and how you use it is most important, but I have the same issue as maestro. Most people think 3 pages is a lot, so if I got all the info I wanted, it wouldn't all fit on 3 pages. Thanks for all the help, and Steve, your planner looks great.

I'm going to surmise something, and I hope neither you, nor anyone else here, takes it the wrong way.

But is it possible that you're selling the wrong thing to your clients? If that doesn't makes sense, then don't worry about it... If it does, then just think about it...

FYI - that statement is about what you sell, not your level of performance or anything else. Please don't try to use it to imply I mean something other than I really do.

I have no idea what you are trying to say so I can't really take it the wrong way... Guess I'm not that deep.

What I do know, is that I have an office FULL of 'Thank-you' cards telling me how helpful I was during the planning process and how I had delivered the wedding of their dreams. :) I guess I should be happy with the end results but I always want to do more...

I can't possibly think of what could go into a 35 page planner unless you have a list of songs after every event (bouquet, garter, etc) I use intelligent dj planner software. It's comprehensive with timeline, planner and music request sheet. Anything over 10 pages is a bit much but what do I know...I'm just a deejaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! LOL
