What a week. Not a good one.
I had my MB full pass, Airfare, hotel, all lined up & paid for. I almost made it to the airport, but couldn't do it.
On Sat. afternoon (about 2 hrs before a wedding gig...ugh!) I found out from our vet that our 12 yr. old cocker spaniel had terminal cancer. It was just a matter of days before we needed to put her to sleep. The cancer had destroyed her lungs & she had only partial use of one lung & was having trouble breathing. The vet told us that the sign to bring her in to be put down is when she begins panting through her mouth (trying to get air)
On Tues. morning at about 6AM I was getting ready to go to the airport & noticed her breathing a tad heavier, but tried to convince myself she'd be fine. As I was driving to the airport, I couldn't get this image out of my mind & imagined it getting worse throughout the day & her dying alone & gasping for air (my wife was at work) & dumping it on my wife to deal with finding her or worse yet, if she made it another day or so, having to rush her to the vet to be put down.
I realized that she would not make it till I got back on Thurs. night & realized that in reality the DJ convention is a flea on an elephant's ass compared to what this dog has been in my life & the responsiblity I owe to my family to be there for this.
After I got home, my worst thoughts came true & her breathing became heavier into panting by mid day. We wound up taking her in & having her put to sleep that afternoon.
I have never been through this before & it was like losing a daughter. After this, I was in no mood to even think about going to Vegas. My family took her death pretty rough.
I was dissapointed to miss the MB LV show. I was really looking forward to it, but the big picture really came into focus.
So far, the airlines has given me credit, I have till December to use towards any flight & the hotel refunded the difference,I lost the deposit. That's fine. I have tried to contact Mobile Beat to see if I can get a refund or a credit towards another show...but have heard nothing back from them.
Even if I lost the full amount of everything, it was still worth it to be where I needed to be in this situation. I would've REALLY hated myself later if I would've gotten on that plane.
As the Chicago Cubs say...Maybe next year?
