There will be ages 0-80 or older, So I need a big range of music played for everybody! I basically am wanting nothing fancy just music, Some lighting & for you to take some request. I will need you to play the music for the ceremony not the whole ceremony just when the BridesMaids & the Bride walk in! cAN YOU please, please HELP ME OUT & IF AT ALL POSSIBLE GIVE ME A GOOD RATE!! i HOPE & PRAY THAT YOU CAN HELP ME ON SUCH SHORT NOTICE, tHANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART..;) Robin Goodwin (Bride)

Amazingly, it sounds like she just now figured out she was getting service for 4 bills (and even that's too much) and now she's going to cancel (or has already done so) on the DJ.........1 day in advance. Oh man, this just screams a good story. Apparently, no contract, no clear understanding of the price offered, and no scruples on the part of the bride either.

...the great deal he was giving us was $400.00
This part I agree with. $400.00 was a good deal.

With the economy lately the writer may not be able to afford the 4 bills. But I've gotta wonder why the cost came as a last-moment surprise. Perhaps the DJ quoted a lower cost then jacked it up. Obviously, something wasn't in writing.

Yup, good luck getting a wedding DJ booked at the 11th hour.

Ooops.....

"Sorry honey, but we get paid to DJ.... you should've kept your DJ cause we charge $799 for what you're askin for.... good luck child... you're gonna need it.... hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha"

Would that reply been a little harsh???? ;)

Not as harsh as what I sent..........:sqwink:

Apparently DJs never educated the poor girl. Is it her fault for not doing proper homework? Yes indeed but on the priority scale we are typically near the bottom of the list. Add insult to injury on the day before her happy day is oozing of professional compassion? I think not. I would simply not reply. Thats of course if I wasnt booked and might even try and help her need if I was sitting idle but of course not for 400.

Jon's right. A response would be necessary only if one is willing to take the gig. It's a lead, not a personal contact. If it's not something you want, I see no need to respond. :)

Consider it SPAM, you know you won't do it for 400.00 so why even bother. Not really worth the time to even write a response. It reminds of a Gross Anatomy class I gave to a PRE Med class at the University down here. After the first test I gave out the grades and omitted the failing grades for the students that failed. But you know smarty pants kids wanted to know what was their grade instead of talking to me privately. Well lets just say that on the following four tests when a students grade was not mentioned they knew better :D:D:D:D:D

$400? Around here in North Central Mass substitute $250 for $400 and that would be spot on.

Recent Eventective lead: Concord MA (big money town) 150 8th graders for a party. She wants "real loud" and her budget is $250.

Ok, sure...... :-(

Not in a million years. Can you picture the kids overunning the booth with requests? I sure can. all I can say is WOW! $250 cannot overcome the aggravation factor this gig will come with.

Best,

Paul

Drop it by another $150 and you get eastern Nova Scotia :sqerr:

I normally wouldn't respond but this one grabbed me for some reason. The way I read it, it sounded like she'd "just discovered" the price and was looking for a cheaper alternative so she could bail on the DJ, last minute. Hopefully, my response scared her into keeping the original guy and honoring her commitment.

Seems kinda ironic, doesn't it. Here is a person, about to make a life commitment to a new husband. How in the world can they do that if they're not even capable of honoring a temporary commitment, all over a few bucks?

Wow ASSuMPTION!!!!Yet again we know it all cause we are (pounds chest til it bleeds) DJ Gods we know all.

EDIT: I do know it all :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Filet Mignon or Porterhouse how about you Randy? By the way nice Valentines report and excellent system loved the lighting combo as it is amazing for any event especially a school event. 4Bills plus?

Bro Fred,
The economy should have nothing to do with Professional DJs fees. Some of those people who balk at the DJs prices often pay high Venue, Catering, Cake, Florist etc. fees without any questioning of prices. In their eyes, DJs are nothing more than hobbyists with a few pieces of equipment trying to make too much money.
The ones who are to blame for that outlook are the DJs themselves. Nobody gets a reduction in Electric rates or water rates or things of that nature. If they can't afford entertainment they should do without it.
Priority and importance are the two most dire things that affect how a DJ is viewed by others. Sad thing is, some knucklehead is going to step up and do the Gig for $200.00. Would it help that DJ? Sure, he now has $200.00 more than he did but look at the precedents being set. Some of us are making it too easy for clients to abuse us with lack of good pricing!

Houston,
I believe most people have no idea how much one's music collection and equipment costs, that's why they think any amount above $200.00 is too much.

Agreed. The economy should have nothing to do with a professional service provider's fees. However, the economy is a factor in how people decide to spend.

Even in prosperous times, entertainment is often an afterthought, if it's a consideration at all. We've all heard and read countless stories of desparate brides who, after paying for everything else suddenly discovered that they have little or no money left for entertainment.

In all honesty, few brides are willing to forgo the usual trappings of a wedding to afford an expensive DJ company's service. I'm not convinced that this is a fault of DJs in general; rather, it's a bride's priorities.

Thoughts?
