Bad Cable Modem?

Well, well, well.........finally got a hold of someone at the local office that gave me the scoop. Apparently, they opened up a new area for signing up high speed internet, but didn't anticipate the large response. So now, their servers are overloaded and will be for the next two weeks until all the additional equipment arrives and is in place to handle the load. 
The funny part......they were going to be so gracious in giving me $10 back of the $46.95 I pay for 10 meg and only getting 2 megs at the max. I told them I could get 3 megs from another provider for $19.95 and would do so if I didnt' get full credit for the past two months. The supervisor got on the line and had to listen to me for only about 3 minutes, before she approved it. Probably just to shut me up!
Even better, while I had her on the line, I cancelled all the extra subscriptions from my account and she asked if I would be looking for something else (dish in our area is the only other thing)? I told her it all depended on how I felt after I ate supper. hahahah
She then offered a nice discount on my regular cable for the next 6 months, which I gladly accepted.

I'll give them the two weeks & then see what happens when it comes to the internet portion.
As for the tv portion, we're actually going to check out a few of the dish networks this weekend and see what types of deals are currently going on. The last time we checked, there wasn't really that much of a difference because we need four boxes and they charged extra for them. Now, they are offering up to 4 boxes in the packages.
This is one area where I've been eveluating for some time now. The bills pretty large after all the movie channels, extra boxes, etc....and we aren't really utilizing it enough to justify the expense. This is not the first time I've threatened to pull the plug and everytime they've managed to keep me as a customer by giving me additional discounts, but it's not going to be that easy this time for them.

When I switched to FIOS, they said the bill would be about the same, or less. That's what I bought into.
After the install bill (which was fully rebated), I get a bill for about $20 more than normal. Next month, $45 more than normal!
So I call Verizon chick, and she said my "discount" hadn't been applied properly, and she would fix it. Ok, 20 minutes later, she said she fixed it. So, I ask about this $8.95 per month Security/Backup 25 GB thing, saying I don't need it, I already have offsite backup.
She says -- "You can't get the special deal without that." :sqerr:
That's cool. I hope a tree doesn't accidentally "special" fall on their fiber lines this winter...

They always do that special crap this way when the promotional period is over they'll bill you at full rate for it most people don't pay attention to the bill and will just pay it.
Slightly related: I know a guy who upgraded to DSL and was still paying for dial up service from the same company for almost a year. He never realized it until his daughter looked at the bill. There goes ~$200 down the drain for nothing.
I take it you have not seen the $5,000 phone we have here...
I'll make this brief, cause it's almost funny.
When I got here about 10 years ago, and my Aunt died, they still had a rotary phone. Fair enough -- grew up with them, know how to use them.
My cousin (GRHS-S), was handling Grandma's bills. The phone bill came to my attention one day (being the auditor sorta guy that I am). Seems that they had been paying the "rental" fee for the phone from AT&T, since the 50's or 60's. We all know that fee went away back in the early days, but they didn't know that here :sqerr:
I reckoned this little rotary phone, cost them over $5K (yes, this is a keepsake)
Did you think AT&T mentioned that little, tiny, minor fact to my old Grandma...? NADA!
