Hey guys I am looking for a camera for my company and I would love a D90 but it is out of my price range. So I was looking at a Canon XSi or Nikon D3000 or D5000. I do theatrical and concert work, so I am looking for the best depth of field, most manual control, and the best camera under a variety of lighting conditions. What do you guys think?

Mike

After looking at everything I think I am going with the Nikon D5000. I can do without the autofocus (the main advantage of the XSi) and I like Nikon lenses better.

All digital SLR's have auto focus... you do have the option to shut it off...

I rely on AF... I don't like wearing my glasses when I am using my camera and without them things close are a bit blurred... if I were to use manual focus what may be clear to me would be out of focus for someone else...

Well on the D3000 and D5000 auto focus motors are not contained in the body of the unit so they are only in the lenses, an I believe the stock lenses that come with the unit are motorless.

I purchased the Nikon D5000 about 6 weeks ago. It is one fantastic camera. With up to 4 frames per second, you get those hard to capture motion shots.

The HD Movie function is another great feature---however--DJ's beware---the super sensitive microphone captures horrendously distorted sound with loud music.

The 12 mega pixel CMOS chip is terrific in low light conditions too!
Automated scene settings are also great!

The kit comes with the famed VR Lenses -- yes the motorized lenses for shake-free ayto focus.

Best Buy is where I finally made my purchase. The body, a 18- 55 mm and a 55 - 200 mm lense along with a camera bag set me back $1000. I have deen ads recently as low as $699.

I had originally wanted the Cano EOS TI. But reviews of it in low light conditions were very negative--so I went with the Nikon.

I ended up purchasing a flash unit for it, which cost another $200.

Hope this helps!
