Parents and fans sit in the bleachers that flank the sides of the auditorium.

(Sections 108 thru 112 and 122 thru 128 in the picture.)

The judges raised stage faces the performance mat. I forgot to include that in the depiction.

Allow me to include the email I just sent this years organizer of the event last night:

Thanks Brandi -

All music MUST be on CD. No exceptions. I do not have MP3 capabilities and I do not have tape capability anymore. This means all music must be in a .wav format on the CD.

The coaches need to understand the following concerning their teams routines when it comes to music.

THIS MUST BE FOLLOWED TO THE LETTER: (I'll explain in a minute)

1) If the team has 2 routines that are separated by a cheer, the music MUST BE two separate tracks on the CD. I refuse to put up with stopping the track or pausing it somewhere in the middle. That has caused tremendous headaches in the past with deducted points, only because I did what the coach told me to do and it was wrong.

2) Tell the coaches to bring back up just in case something goes wrong with their master CD.

3) Whoever hands me the CD for each team, CAN NOT leave my side and go and sit with the other coaches.
I need them there in case I need to ask questions. That way, they can give me the sign as to when to start the music.

If the coaches will follow these simple rules, we will all get along better, and the event production (on my part) will go much smoother. I need to have as much help as possible this year since I am doing the announcing. The less I have to think about and worry about, the more I can concentrate on producing.

****One thing I wanted to touch on that happened last year that really bothered me - my music was censored over and over by the young lady that was sort of running things. I did not play anything off color or misleading, that the kids or their parents haven't already heard on the radio. I play clean stuff, but much of what I played last year, I was told to cut it off or play something else. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. I do not have time to worry about what I am playing while taking care of other things. Please pass along to whomever is in charge this year (if it's the same person) that if my music is censored this year, that I will not be available for the event next year. I would hate it if that happened, because we've built a unique relationship over the last 10 years.

As for arrival time, I normally arrive at the event venue before you folks do - last year I was there at 6:30am and it was still dark and I had to wait on everyone to get there.

Khakis and a button down black shirt are what I can wear. Thanks for the no tie thing - I hate wearing ties.

If we need to discuss anything contained in this email, please call me at your earliest convenience. I don't want the content to be taken the wrong way.

Thanks so much Greg!

By business casual, we normally mean dress khakis, or dress pants with a button down shirt. No tie necessary.

I will get a list of trivia for you to look over Saturday morning. What time do you plan to be there to set up? Can coaches use MP3 players for their music or no? I have only said CDs and Tapes are ok for now. Just let me know!

Thanks!

Brandi -

Thanks for the email. I understand your desire for me to dress business casual, but I need a little clarification on your term of "business casual".

As for the trivia questions, that's all fine and good. If you can get me the paperwork that morning so I have time to go over things and prep myself prior to playing music, I would appreciate it.

Hey Greg!

Below is the email I sent to judges. Just know that you will need to dress business casual like the judges since you'll be announcing the event. I might find some trivia questions for you to ask the audience to keep them entertained during the down time. Do you feel comfortable doing that?

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions!

Hello everyone!

The Carolina Championship is coming up in just about 2 weeks, so I wanted to touch base with all of you on just a few things. Number one, thanks SO MUCH for deciding to judge this UCA competition! This event has grown tremendously in just the past few years, and we are so excited to be back in the Greensboro Coliseum. There have been some major changes to the UCA All Star scoresheet, and you can check it out and even play with the numbers by clicking here- http://www.varsity.com/scoring/ -just be sure to select "UCA" from the drop down box. I have also attached 2 short power points with details and instructions on scoring both School and Allstar teams. Please familiarize yourselves with these scoresheets so that judging will be less stressful for everyone! Feel free to call or email me with ANY questions. There will certainly be a judges meeting on Saturday morning prior to the event to clear up any confusion and to cover all details.

(See attached file: 2009_2010_School & Youth Rec Power Point.ppt)(See attached file: VAS Judges Training Power Point.ppt)

Right now I need to know if you will need a hotel room on November 20th, the night before the event. Keep in mind the judges meeting will most likely begin at 7:30 AM.

Thanks so much and I'll be in touch again very soon with hotel details!

A simple spelled out signed contract with all the terms would have handled all the emails back and forth. What they thought after they signed is their problem. CD's don't come in just .wav format. CDA is the standard format as far as I know. There for spelling out the format type in the contract would make it clear.

Ev are great for long throw situations. I do not know the size of the room but that is going to be a big factor in the setup. How far the the crowd is from the speakers, is there gonna be a lot of speaking or mostly music. You will be fine for music if the audiance is in front but may get feedback from the lack of speakers to fill the room for vocals. If you can get a pair of speakers on each side running together @ 4ohms and angle them slightly left and right from each other it will cut the feedback down somewhat and take less power to fill the same space. Have Run live sound for many years and its different everytime. Good luck, have fun you will be good.

Jake -

This is one of those situations that only needs email clarification without things spelled out in a contract. I have a very close and special relationship with these folks, and they normally conform to whatever I want or need. They know I'm very reliable and will work to make things exceptional for every event.

That's the beauty of having the original President of the company being a close personal friend, who also happens to be the one that originally contacted me to do this event 10 years ago. She lives about 15 minutes from me, and we talk several times through-out the year about different things that are happening within the Cheerleading world. I feel very fortunate to have these folks as an annual client and hope that it continues for another 10 years.

So what's the problem?

Bumping this thread.

Here are 2 pics from this Saturdays Cheerleading Competition.

The tri-amped rack I built for this event and the speakers used.

I know it looks a little rough with the cables showing - this was right after I had set stuff up and prior to hiding the cables. These are the only two pics I was able to get with my phone - I was under the gun to start playing music.

I ran the 4 smaller Yamaha's off the Peavey 4C, the 2 Yammie S115's and 2 EV SX 500's off the Peavey 8.5C and the 2 EV SB 180 subs off the Yamaha amp.

The guy that was in charge of clean up after the event was over, opened up the roll top doors and let me drive into the coliseum - that made my night!

Enjoy.
