Would you "intrude" on another DJ?

As someone on another board said:

"On Sunday morning there will be a post on a DJ board called: Guess what some idiot DJ wanted to do at my gig last night?"

:sqerr:

I may not be the smartest guy in the world, but I'm not gonna be that idiot DJ.

Hey! Papa you are coming real close to calling me or anyone else here who said they would try and help out an idiot. :sqmad:

Holy crap! This is getting crazy! This suddenly got turned into a wedding discussion. Its a 50th bday party.

Ok, several ways to go with this.

a) Have your wife ask the friend if she would like for you to provide event lighting. A couple of uplights behind the cake, maybe a light on the banner or the cake. Then throw your VUE III or whatever in the truck. Just in case.......

b) contact the DJ, with the clients permission and network a bit. Ask him if there is anything he needs. This is a way to help the party out but not be a douche.

c) Let it go and don't worry about it.

Let us know what happens, Papa.

That's already done on my part... Like I said, I am not butting in. But I will let you know how he does. And I'll keep it in perspective, meaning that he doesn't claim to be a professional DJ.

Swear on my kids.... we just got a call from the friend of my wife. The DJ bailed. Says he is sick. And guess who is now getting paid? :sqwink:

I really want to bring EVERYTHING I have to sort of prove a point, but I don't have time to get ready. I have errands that need doing. I will, however, take photos and put on a pretty good show without all my normal bag of tricks.

Some of you guys have either forgotten where you have come from or just were lucky enough to have all the gear you wanted before you took on your first gig.

Don't knock the dj for stepping outside of his bedroom for experience.

I was looking forward to seeing how the event turned out, too bad he got sick.

P. Duece do you happen to know the age of this dj?

Wow I had assumed preteen to early teens. I think if your older you should know better!

I was going out halfassed with just my dads old technics home stereo system, my turntables/mixer and a table full of crates. I was only 13 doing my family reunions and other gigs for family and friends who were all aware I was starting out.

I kinda saw myself "back in the day" when reading about this dj but gosh you can't really let a 20something slide like you can let a 13 year old, lol.

My first handful of gigs were all done at the Senior center in Lewes, Delaware, near a fire station and I still remember my first time bring my lighting, bubbles and fog. Of coarse the smoke detectors went off and 30 seconds later the guys from down the street were there, lol......ahhhhhh the good ol days!

Ever had a gig there Fred?(if you see this) That's where I lost my dj virginity, lol

Well it's no wonder that venue don't want to pay anything.

Seriously, we don't DJ much Downstate. The market is pretty well cornered. Among others, John Mixon and Sharon of Dune Tunes got it covered. We did get the Rehoboth Hooters swimsuit finals a few years ago, that was a reference from John. I guess his wife didn't want him to do it. :D

We've done some private shows in the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, clients who rented the place for weddings etc. But we haven't done a show for them. The MMC can't get past $150.00 for a DJ, it seems.

Was there no contract?
Too bad if he's sick. If he is, he needs to find a replacement.
It's his responsibility to fullfill his end of the arrangement. Tell him if he's a no-show, the client will sue.

If he wants to be a DJ, he needs to to/learn the consequences of being in business.

No contract... it was the client's nephew. He just volunteered. I don't imagine he wants to be a pro.
