The 50th BD party that I just finished for my wife's friend.... this is what the hall manager told me before I plugged anything in... To follow it up, he said "If you plug anything into any other receptacle on the stage, the whole place loses power."

Now, how would you like to hear THAT as soon as you walk in a building? :sqerr:

This was a Knight's of Columbus Hall.

I'll post a gig report and song list tomorrow, with pics, but right now I need sleep.

Ok, you've had enough sleep....time to get up......:sqwink:

Papa, isn't this something that you address in your contract with the client? How many boxes you need and how much equipment you will be using?

I only got the party 5 hours prior to it happening.... I filled in for a DJ who bailed.

Ah ok, playing the good guy huh? Take a guess how often I played that role :)

Hmmm....maybe the other dj knew something you didn't, smarty pants. ;)

What, that the electricity sucked at the venue?

Beisdes, I only took 2 lights with me. Obviously the venue knew that they had shoddy service.

While situations like this have all kinds of potential for problems, I'm glad that a good number of my lighting effects are now LED.

Looking forward to your report.

But how did the party go??

It went "OK".... it took a really long time to get them up and going, but when I did, they stayed up with a packed floor.

The first hour of dance time was spent playing requests ( 100% ) but I didn't have a single dancer until someone requested the Cupid Shuffle...

I'll post pics in a different thread later on.

Sounds like a case of very old or very bad wiring.
I'd make sure I knew where all the exits were before the party started.

I was about 6 feet from an exit.... :sqlaugh:

As long as that Exit wasn't blocked!....:sqwink:

Papa, do you run a Furman that tells you the Voltage that you've plugged into? Just curious.

Sounds like the one hall I was at a few years ago - NONE of the outlets in the bldg were grounded. All were 2-pronged outlets!

Cheers,

Joe
