Can you prevent form submission spam if you use the no follow tag on any links that go to the form page?

Anybody body using any type CAPTCHA with their forms? Thoughts, feedback?

I need to create a single submission sign up form, I'd use DJEP, but this project/webpage is separate from my main DJ service (and DJEP only allows you to customize all the forms the same way).

Thanks for any help.

Recatchpa is the way to go these days. http://recaptcha.net/

You can also do a simple question and answer challenge for instance "What is 3 + 2?" if they don't answer or answer incorrectly the form isn't submitted.

One of the measures we take here on ODJT's registration form is we start a javascript timer on page load then count how long it takes for submit to be pressed. If it's submitted to fast (less than 5 seconds), registration is refused as it's obvious a form filler is being used the majority of the times form filler = bot. For the humans that use form fillers there's a warning telling them not wait a few seconds if using a form filler.

Hope it helps,
Dan

With today's educational system, better make the question easier than that :sqwink::sqlaugh:

:sqlaugh: On one forum I used "What color was George Washington's white horse?" I kid you not registrations dropped off to 1 or 2 a day from 10+. My client was pissed but really how could you not get an old riddle like that..the answer is right there? :sqeek:

The measures Dan mentions will block bots. They won't block people who are intent on misusing your Information Request to advertise SEO services and the like.

Fortunately, there are not many real people out there being paid to spam form requests. There's not enough return to justify the time involved. :)

thats why the recatchpa is so good!

Wayde:

Just ran across your post. You CAN hack the DJEP code to funnel requests for information into one account. This has been done by half a dozen users at least.

You would need to:

1) Grab the form code from DJEP
2) Customize it and integrate it into your site
3) Use the custom designed request for information form thank you redirect value. This can be found here: Website Tools -> Request Info Form -> Advanced Settings

The custom thank you URL allows you to redirect to a page of your choice after the form submission.
