Upcoming wedding, the groom wants Pretty Fly For a White Guy played once near the beginning of open dancing, and once near the end. I'll play it, but I only remember playing it once before, and I think it was a floor killer.

What has been your experience with this song?

Papa...LOL..One of my favorite tunes...

I normally go with Play That Funky Music and then follow up with Pretty Fly as my white boy medley. I don't do this everytime, but when I feel the crowd is right. Usually it goes quite well.

Play the song Papa twice just like he asks. And when you announce it just say in your best exited DJ voice "Dedicating this especially to our groom (Pretty fly for a white guy). People will smile and the groom will be happy. Playing a song twice for a happy groom is much different that getting a huge list of songs that suck from a bride and groom. If it flys it flys if not then you have a happy groom.

if he requested it ONCE, it's because he likes it
if he requested it TWICE, he must LOVE it,
which means his friends know it and love it!
I agree, preface it with the right announcement, and it will do fine!
(...here's one for the WHITEST guy in the room!)
just make sure he's in the room when you play it!

simple solution say wow dude thats a cool song I need to know the significance of this song for you so I can hype it up properly for best guest response. He will then spill the beans. You can then gauge how you want to intro it. You might find out it was a specific groups theme song back in the day or something totally difference but knowing the significance if full will allow you and the effort to shine.

My suggestion would be to ask his permission to use it to open up the dancing. Then, you can get all his friends and the crowd amped up, he can go crazy to start everything off, you get the campy comedy value out of it without having to worry about the effect it will have on a fully-moving dance-floor.

Then, go right from it into one of your usual floor-starters.

Thats how I would suggest doing it if it were my client.

Papa remember the Customer is always CORRECT

best do what he asks and if its a bad choice only one to blame is the groom not you
your there for the client

if he says play it 20x times then you must do as the client asks..

Hey I played Uncle Albert at the grooms request tonight once for the bridal party and once near the end of the night....Both times it rocked the place..

If the groom wants it odds are it will work

Ah, well, I do not always believe that.... but in this case I do.

Even if it is a complete floor killer just do as the man says and play it twice!

Why is it that we all want to give our customers custom playlist and a personalized recepetion but when our clients tell us exactly what they want we question it and try to make other suggestions? Just give the people what they ask for!!!!!

Whats a dud to you might be a gem to others!

Did you not read my post? I absolutely SAID I WAS PLAYING IT TWICE. I was just curious about the reaction others have had with the song,

Yes, I read your post and who cares what the reaction is of others if thats what your client wants!!! That was basicly the point of my post. Give them what they want, what else is really up for discussion? You want to know a story for everytime a dj has played that song? Ok here is your answer, the crowd either danced or they didn't.

Done, now you can close this thread :sqwink:

I was just curious about the reaction others have had with the song,

In the 11 years it's been out I remember playing it 3 times, all by request, and it flopped all three times
