Recommendations for an audio sampler?

For years, I have been using a Numark Mixer (DM1295) with 4 on-board sampler recorders. I use these 'effects' a lot. I want to get rid of the mixer because it too often gives me fits and requires repairs. Since most mixers don't come with on-board samplers, I'd like to switch to an external unit. Any suggestions? All I need to do is record 30 seconds max of four or more sound effects that I can quickly play when I see the opportunity.

Stuff like: 'Yeah, Baby' or 'You Can Do It' or applause, etc.

My DJ software does that! I call them "Drops". They are nothing more than MP3 files that can be recorded and played by most software and mp3 players.
 
I've got an iPod. I was hoping for a unit with something like 12 buttons you could program and within 1 second, hit the button and have the sample play. Like, when I see someone dancing super-sexy, I could hit the 'Yeah, Baby' clip. Again, I need to have whichever sample I need playing within one or two seconds at the most.

Ahhhh gotcha! Well you can do two things. Some dual mp3/cd players have numerical buttons you can push. Then again, be original, use the mike! :sqwink:
 
Yo, Thunder, WHERE ARE YOU?!

I'm looking for the same sort of standalone device. I'm almost tempted to use those sound buttons used in toys or digital voice reminders ( you can buy them for a couple of bucks a piece at Build - A - Bear) and building one. However, I would prefer to purchase it if possible.

It looks like it requires a PC ( for one thing it's USB powered ) and uses PC software.

What we're looking for is a fully integrated stand alone unit. Something like what used to be incorporated in electronic musical keyboards, minus the keyboard.
