Really big time bands that you thought were terrible?

okay, another 100% opinion question...so I'll bite!

any band that hasn't had an original idea in it's lifetime.
(which probably explains their LACK of longevity)

the old bands (Zeppelin, Stones, Floyd, etc.)
were originators!
like their music or not.

Yeah sorry when one says Led Zepelin was original hasnt an idea of how many obscure Blues songs they took as their own. The Rolling Stones as well.

Alice In Chains wasthe only one I liked out of all of them and I heard the new single with the new singer I wasnt really excited about hearing but then when having done so shocked how he sounds much like Layne.

Jon, I have to agree....AIC was my favorite, and I am still a Jerry Cantrell fan....

I saw him play with other bands....Sammy Hagar, and Nickelback....and he gained my respect. He WAS the talent in AIC.

Alice In Chains wasn't even part of the grunge scene. They were labeled as a metal band but as soon as grunge went huge the record label lumped them into the scene to sell records and it worked.

young...

I'm not sure if we're talking big bands that we find terrible, or overrated. I'll go with overrated, for my list, since I find it more interesting to examine the amount of talent (as perceived by every individual posting in this thread), versus the amount of fame.

My list:

1. REO Speedwagon, Journey, and sometimes Styx. To me, they might as well be the same band, as most of their stuff is overwrought, and overdone. Add overplayed to the equation, and it becomes pretty damn hard to enjoy at all.

2. Led Zeppelin. The hype about this band used to simply annoy me. Later, I could more objectively listen to their music, and it's ok in most cases, sometimes it's really good. But the "legacy" FAR outweighs the actual music, to me.

3. Pink Floyd. I'd simply rather take a nap.

and now, replies :)

Hey, how could I forget Bob Dylan? :sqerr:

Because you were trying to forget? :)

I couldn't stand Led Zeppelin. Still don't much care for them to this day.

As you can see, I'm with you on this.

How about an underrated thread?!

start one! :)

I agree with Jon, the originators are likely blues artists that you may have never heard of.

Some of you old guys might hate me for parts of this list, but I could never stand these bands. These are in no particular order:

-Led Zepplin
-Pink Floyd
-The Rolling Stones
-The Beatles
-Kansas
-Lynyrd Skynyrd (or however it's spelled)
-Marilyn Manson
-Rob Zombie
-The Sex Pistols
-The Ramones
-Smashing Pumpkins (used to like them, but can't stand the lead singer's voice anymore)
-White Stripes
-Sum41
-The Fray
-Panic! At the Disco

There are probably more, but these were the big ones that I could think of off the top of my head.

And it is funny that those 3 bands tour together every summer.

I have to stop coming into this thread or my head is going to explode!!!!

Geez, I got called old, and you defamed some of my favorite bands in one post... :sqerr: :sqeek: :sqconfused:

No donuts for you today Duckster... :D

Just a thought here, since I've seen these names mentioned a few time...

Seeing Zep, was the highlight of my concert career! I saw them in '77 I think, and no words could describe the show they put on. It was like being in a totally different world... Saw them at the Garden.

Stones, I never paid much mind to, until I saw them live at one of the bowl places in Miami. Totally awesome, and incredibly tight on stage. Went again about 2 years later in DC, and the show was even better! Hooked a connection, and got to party with them after the show as well :)

So anyway, before writing off a band -- try to catch them live. Ya never know, ya might change yer mind like me...

Tool, Pantera, Marilyn Manson, ICP, White Zombie
Oh,... And Jandek

This is like the only post I can live with. These bands, styx, and REO are probably the most over rated in my opinion. But even styx and reo had a few decent songs.

but groups like
Led Zep....simply amazing..12 years...only 2 singles releases but almost every album went #1 and all were in the top 10.
Rolling Stones...so many great songs
aerosmith...a lot of great songs(agree with rick,,they had some bad times late 70's early 80's_

Tom Petty...awesome
Hendrix..an incredible amount of classic rock in a very short time
van halen /hager not up there with the groups above, but still a number of great songs
I like garth brooks
doors...some good hits...again..in a short time span.
cars....one really good album...and then a few mediocre hits
