We are going on the family vacation next week to visit Mickey. I am thinking about going out deep sea fishing for the 1st time. Anyone have suggestions on charters or advice???

Note to Eddie... Orlando is in the middle of the state... :sqwink:

Eddie, If anyone offers you oceanfront property during your Mickey visit, don't bite.

All kidding aside, a 90 minute trip west from Orlando on I-4 will put you in Tampa where you will find plenty of charter boats and party boats to choose from.

I believe right now is red snapper season.

You won't catch any trophy fish but you'll have a good time and probably bring in more than you care to take home.

Advice:
Since this is your first time, choose the 1/2 day trip.
A full day on the water may be more that you and your family can handle first timeout.

Things to bring:
Dark sunglasses
Hat
Camera
Long sleeved shirt
High SPF sunblock
Cooler (for bringing filets home)

I'll add to the list (since it wasn't previously mentioned & you did say this was your first fishing trip...)

Dramamine or an O-T-C antiemetic.... No fun if you're spending your day hurling lunch, creating your own chum slick....;)

A walk down your local drug store & your pharmacist should help, if you aren't sure which one to choose.

Cheers & please post pics!

I forgot to mention that we will be visiting the Tampa/St. Petersburg area too specifically for the fishing...oops!!!

Like Bill said, the Tampa - St. Pete area has lots of charter boats. I think he nailed it with his response.

I was going to mention that the East coast (Titusville, Cape Canaveral, & Kennedy Space Center) is a lot closer to Orlando than Tampa, but if you're coming to Tampa, there are plenty of charter boats in Clearwater. Google Clearwater deep sea fishing.

Also, we usually get an afternoon thunderstorm which can get pretty rough if you're out on the water.

Bill and Alphabets advice are the real deal. Red Snapper deep fried yummy. Yrs ago I went out on a 1/2 day but had worked graveyard shift so as the boat was taking us out to our first drop I went below to catch a quick cat nap. I awoke feeling sicker than a dog. I took some dramamine and came up top but it took me a good 40 minutes to feel better.

We began snagging Snapper and a few other fish from the first spot in fact as soon as we started hitting a bunch they would move to another spot. At the end of the day we had a total of 50+ mostly Red Snapper.

The old boy who took us had a big black kettle which he set a fire out front and deep fried some of the snapper, It was delicious.

Good Luck Eddie.

All you wimps and yer dramamine  :sqlaugh:

BTW, you can get a wild buzz, if you take too much of that crap -- the cure can be worse than the symptoms... ;)

As a Captain, I would recommend the wrist straps, instead of the drugs. They work pretty well, I used them during a couple hurricanes :)

If yer really savvy, you just get in the water -- there is no longer any point of reference, so no longer any feeling of weird motion or nausea. Symptoms clear up almost immediately once yer in the water. Might want to remember that if yer ever on a cruise ship and get seasick -- just jump in the pool -- it goes away :)

The wrist straps do work, my ex used to get seasick on my parent's boat and she used the straps, I should've thrown her overboard in the middle of the >Gulf :D:D:D:D:D:D

My wife tried those sea-sickness straps once but almost couldn't swallow them.

ROFLMAO!!!!!! No they're supposed to strap you with them on the guardrail so you can puke overboard and not make a mess on the deck. If she tried eating them you have the potential of projectile strap vomiting :D:D:D:D:D:D

Eddie regardless of which fishing trip you choose dont consider passing on a meet up with Bob it in itself will be the best secret catch of the trip. He might even give you a Kazoo. LOL. Luv ya Bob!!!
